The primary role of the senior developer / lead is to translate the business requirements into scalable design and technical specifications and develop effective and high quality technical solutions that meet the business requirements. The technical domain of the BI Senior Developer includes understanding Business Intelligence (BI) best practices, tools and technologies, security in the environment, understanding of different data warehousing and dimensional modelling concepts, BI development, performance tuning and support system testing.
 
Primary Responsibilities:

Ability to work closely with Business Analysts and SMEs to understand business needs and help define requirements for reporting solutions

Experienced in delegating and coordinating development and testing in an onsite - offshore delivery model

Experience in leading a geographically dispersed team of 5 - 10 resources

Ability to design and build reporting  semantic layer using Cognos cubes, Business Object Universe  and / or other similar BI tool capabilities

Proficient in designing and creating reports primarily using Cognos and Microsoft SSRS  Expertise in other BI Tools like Microstrategy and Business Objects  preferred

Familiarity with ETL tools like SSIS, Informatica and Data Stage

Familiarity with Data Visualization tools like Tableau

Ability to design, develop and deploy custom applications using Visual Basic .Net / C#

Participate in development and configuration projects for a broad set of solutions including transactional and repository reporting applications

Develop technical design documents to describe and support justification of the chosen reporting architecture and proposed implementation

Develop detail design documents, data structure diagrams and code assets supporting the Reporting implementation

Proficient in creating Process Flows using Visio 

Create / maintain report design related artifacts

Validate the BI design and ensure that technical specifications are complete, consistent, concise, and achievable

Ensure quality assurance by unit test activities including the development of test cases and publication of unit test results

Performance tuning of BI processes

Well versed with Automation tools like Tivoli Maestro

Ability to work in a  matrixed  team environment with distributed responsibility across different teams

Ability to work  and deliver in a very high paced environment with limited information at times to support business needs

Experienced in  working with sensitive / de - identified data environments

Experience in working with  encrypted and secure data transfers

Proactive and diligent in identifying and communicating scope, design, development issues and recommending potential solutions

Participate in BI / Reporting architecture design reviews

Conduct BI / Reporting unit testing and code reviews

Participate in system and integration test; identifies and remedies solution defects

Create other technical artifacts needed for project implementation

Requirements

Required Qualifications:
 
The person performing this role would require having at least:

Completion of Bachelors degree or higher
8+ years of Cognos Suite, including Reporting and Cube design and development using Framework Manager

4+ years of SQL Server Integration Services, (SSIS 2008 and above for ETL)

6+ years of  SQL Server Database Skills (SQL 2008 and above)

Proficient in Unix shell scripting

Excellent SQL skills and ability to create T - SQL / stored procedures

Configuration Management using Microsoft Team Foundation Server and / or other version control tools

Understanding of Enterprise Data warehouse data models and dimensional modeling concepts, source to target mapping and Data Integration architecture

Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines, follow development standards and effectively raise critical issues with the client

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Travel required **(see note)
**Typical travel scenario – Travel is based on project size, scope and location.  Projects may require up to 80% travel. If travel is required , typical travel schedule is out early Monday, back late Thursday with telecommute from home on Friday.
 
Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of a  Data Modeling Tool  like Erwin

Knowledge of other databases like Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server

Knowledge of Cisco Data Virtualization platform

Proficiency in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS 2008 and above)

Proficiency in  C# / VB.NET (Using Visual Studio 2012 and above)

Proficient in setting up IIS server website / Setting up Virtual directories / Knowledge of installing IIS certificates etc.

Knowledge of MS SQL Server Suite (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS) and other BI  tools like  Business Objects, Microstrategy

Knowledge of Testing and Defect tracking tools like HP ALM / QC

MS Office Suite, MS Visio

Knowledge of end to end  SDLC from project inception to deployment

Experience in different project management methodologies i.e. Agile and Waterfall

Healthcare Payer / PBM domain knowledge in a data warehouse environment
