POSITION SUMMARY:
The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer II (Ultrasound Tech II) Provides ultrasound imaging in two areas of expertise (Diagnostic and Vascular) and patient care services at defined levels to patients.
Principal Accountabilities:
* Assesses and educates patients according to specific department protocols.
* Implements safety standards to protect to staff and patients.
* Maintains mandated continuing education requirements.
* May be required to train / precept students and new techs.
* Operates a variety of complex stationary and mobile diagnostic equipment.
* Positions patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
* Prepares for and assists the physician in a variety of imaging and/or invasive procedures.
MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education, including Licensure, Certification, Registration:
* American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in good standing, is preferred or eligible to take the registration examination.
* Must have BLS Healthcare Provider.
* Additional multiple certification by ARDMS defined specialty areas preferred.
* Graduate of a ARDMS accredited educational program in ultrasonography preferred.
Knowledge:
* Advanced cross-sectional anatomy, pathophysiology and its effect on normal anatomy; basic knowledge of Obstetrical, and/or vascular anatomy/physiology.
* Knowledge of electrical safety and infection control guidelines.
Experience:
* Extensive experience in the acute care hospital setting performing sonographic categories of obstetrics, gynecology, abdominal, small parts, neurosonology, and/or vascular imaging is required.
Skills:
* Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.
* Must be able to work in a rapidly changing and challenging environment and take appropriate actions in emergent situations.
* Must maintain competencies in two ARDMS defined specialty areas.
