PURPOSE OF POSITION:

• The Deli Manager is responsible for the direct supervision of the Deli Depart m ent operations including providing custo m er service and assuring that associates are following company policies and procedures. He/she is responsible for following the

custo m er satisfaction behaviors, to include being friendly, responsive, knowledgeable and passionate. He/she is also responsible for achieving production and budget objectives. This position includes perfor m ing stocking duties as needed. He/she m u s t have excellent custo m er service skills, as he/she is the role m odel for other associates.

ORGAN I ZATIONAL RE L A TIONSHIPS:

• This position reports to: Store Director, Ass i stant Store Director

• Positions t h at rep o rt d i r ectly to t h is positio n : Assista n t Deli Man a ger, D eli clerks, and any other clerk working in the Deli Depart m ent.

ESS E NTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Manage and accountable for all aspects of the operation and supervision of the Depart m ent including, but not li m ited to: s upervision of Depart m ent personnel; providing custo m er service; achie vi ng sales, g r o ss pro f it, labor, shrink and inventory goals set for the Department; product ordering, quality, presentation, m erchandising, organization, pricing, stocking, shelf allocation, staffing, training, turnover and m orale.

• Assist in in c reasing sales by utilizing the f i ve ste p s of retail selling – Connect with the custo m er; quali f y the c u sto m er; pre s ent sol u tion s ; closing the sale and create a customer f or li f e.

• Assure that all Co m pany and Depart m ent spec i fic policies and procedures are adhered to on a regular basis.

• Perform job functions of other Depart m ent personnel in their absence an d/ or in ad d iti o n to the m .

• In the ab s e n ce of the St o re Director, A ssista n t Store Director and Evenin g / Relief

Manager, the Depart m ent Manager m ay be in charge of the store.

• Effectively s upervise 2 to 30 associ a t es in a fast paced and multi functio n al environment and take appropriate disci p li n ary action when necessary.

• Operate various store c o mputer syste m s.

• Must be available to work 40 hours per week at peak business ti m es.


ADD I TIONAL JOB F UNCTIONS:

• Conduct periodic revie w s of work pract i ces and provide infor m ation to Store

Manage m ent.

• Direct supervision of the Seafood and/or LaCarte Dep a rt m ent operations.

• Achieve other objectives including, but not li m ited to food safety, workplace safety, and co m pany audits.

• Other duties as assigned by Store Manage m ent.

ASSIGNMENT, REV I EW, A N D APPROVAL OF WORK:

• Depart m ent Managers assign, rev i ew, and approve work of all clerks under his/her direct supervision.

• Depart m ent Managers m ust take the initiative to f oresee work that n e eds to be co m pleted and see to it that it is c o mpleted in a ti m ely f ashion.

• Depart m ent Managers d eter m ine a p propriate s t affing levels for each s h ift based on business needs.

• The Depart m ent Manager generally prepa r es work schedules on a weekly basis.

RESPONS I BILITY AND DECI S ION MAKING AUT H O RITY:

• Make recom m endations on staffing the D e part m ent; interviewing and hiring of

Depart m ent personnel; and pro m otion of associates;

• Assign work to, direct the work of and train Depart m ent personnel;

• Co m plete perfor m ance appraisals on all Department personnel;

• I m pose discipline and recommend ter m ination;

• Schedule work hours and ti m e off for Depart m ent personnel;

• Authorize and assign overti m e;

• Accept valid excuses for absence s , tardiness or leaving early.

• Responsible for the supervis i on of the entire depart m ent.

• Responsible for achieving goals e s tablished by the Store Director.

• Responsible to know, understand, and suppo r t depart m ent specific policies and procedures.

• Ensure th a t associ a t es p erform their work in a safe and ergono m ically correct m anner.

• Depart m ent Managers m ust take action on unsafe working conditions when appropriate.

RELATIONS WITH OTHERS:

KNOWLEDGE AND BACKGROUND R E QUIRED:

• Must be at least 18 years old.

• Ability to h a ndle m ultiple prio r i ties in a f ast pac e d environ m ent.

• Problem solving ability.

• Experience as an Assi st ant Dep a rtment Manager or equivalent.

• So m e on the job training is provided.

• High school diplo m a or better.

WORKING CONDI T IONS:

• Stores are usually open 7 days a week.

• Depart m ent Managers usually work 40 hours a week.

• Retail store conditions are generally dry with m o derate te m perature.

• Freez e r co n ditions are g ener a lly v e ry cold.

• Cooler conditions are generally cold.

• Requires the perfor m an c e of repetitive tasks.

• Exteri o r co n ditions v ary with the s e a sons and m a y be wet or dry, warm or cold.

• A hair restraint m ust be worn at all ti m es.

• Associates in the Deli D epart m ent are usually scheduled according to peak custo m er ti m es.

GENERAL:

• This positi o n is a f ull ti m e position.

• This is a supervisory position and subject to tra n sfer to other locations.

• Food safety awareness is required in this position.

MISCELLANEOUS:

• It is i m portant to understand that all Depart m e nt Managers m ust have the ability to deal with, and resolve, so m e potentially difficult situations (such as dissatisfied custo m ers, associate is s ues, or e m ergencie s ) to p e rform this position in a satisfactory m anner.
