Floral Clerk-Store 7963-Maple Shade, NJ - Full-time / Part-time

TITLE: Floral Clerk

BASIC PURPOSE AND FUNCTION: Provides fast, friendly, personalized customer service. Conditions and waters Floral Department products. Assists customers with special orders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on fast, friendly, courteous customer service. Engages in suggestive selling via telephone and one-on-one customer contact. Takes special orders from customers by telephone and in person.

May order product in the absence of the Floral Department Supervisor. Performs receiving duties including: breaking down loads, verifying orders against invoices, reporting shortages and claims, stocking and rotating product. Prevents shrink. Adheres to product temperature and storage guidelines and follows proper packaging techniques. Properly conditions and handles all indoor and outdoor plants, shrubs and flowers. Follows proper processing procedures for all cut flowers.

Creates custom made floral arrangements and corsages as required. Decorates plants. Makes bows. Follows proper signing and merchandising procedures. Assists with periodic inventories.

Responsible for cost and quality control. Maintains a safe work environment. Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of department, work areas, and equipment. Uses related equipment such as: telephones, knives, scissors, box cutters, stem cutters, wire, staplers, pricing guns, hot glue guns, spray paints, balloon heat sealing machines, helium tanks, hand trucks and pallet jacks.

Responsible for performing all job duties and responsibilities with honesty and integrity.

SKILLS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Ability to be friendly, courteous, tactful and maintain composure in dealing with customers and co-workers. Must possess good oral and written communication skills.

Ability to learn merchandising procedures, and all Floral Department procedures. Requires knowledge of Floral Department products, proper care and handling of products, perishability and seasonality of products, safety and sanitation procedures and department policies and procedures.

Ability to stand up for long periods of time, walk and move rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently. Ability to frequently reach, lift and maneuver plants, shrubs and other objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 60 lbs.

Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary. Must be able to use and operate related equipment and work aides such as: telephones, knives, scissors, box cutters, stem cutters, wire, staplers, pricing guns, hot glue guns, spray paints, balloon heat sealing machines, helium tanks, hand trucks and pallet jacks.

Mental alertness is required to ensure accurate completion of work activities. Requires knowledge of basic math, creative ability, and the ability to differentiate and coordinate colors and flowers. Requires knowledge of product variety, seasonality, perishability and proper product conditioning and handling. Requires knowledge of safety and sanitation procedures and department policies and procedures.

Exposure to potential hazards exists with respect to equipment and work aides necessary to perform job duties. Occasional exposure to approximately 40 degrees Fahrenheit while handling and/or working in the cooler. Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions during seasons when plants, shrubs and trees are displayed outdoors. Hands are frequently exposed to cold water, rose thorns, cleaning agents, and a wide variety of plants, flowers, soil mixtures and flower arranging materials. Working conditions consist of a temperature controlled store environment, backroom and production area and outdoor weather conditions.
