I. Job Summary

The Gate Guard is a position of responsibility over inventory leaving the yard area of our store. Accurate counting of all materials leaving the yard is the major task with other clerical duties performed. Good building material knowledge, accurate counting skills, and a friendly, courteous attitude is needed. This person must interact well with all customers in the yard area and yard and clerical personnel.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

A. Must be familiar and in compliance with Stine Policies and Procedures

B. Check all company trucks for accuracy before they leave the yard. Flag long lengths of lumber.

C. Check all customers’ vehicles for accuracy before they leave yard.

D. Write return tickets for all customers returning building materials to yard area.

E. Write return tickets for all drivers that pick up material from job sites.

F. Use the store paging system or radio as customers enter the yard area to pick up building material they have purchased.

G. Keep a record of water heaters sold with customer’s name, address, phone number, and invoice number.

H. Keep a log of all deliveries, transfers, and pick-ups made daily.

I. Assemble displays as directed by Store Management.

J. Separate and put in numerical order all cash invoices and alphabetical order all charge invoices.

K. Help answer phones and page for customer service.

L. In addition to checking our trucks for material accuracy -- also look for material that is not on invoices and report to your immediate supervisor.

M. Monthly -- wrap and label all return tickets and delivery logs.

N. Attend office or yard meetings when asked.

O. Attend store training meetings.

P. Take payments on customer accounts when able.

III. Qualifications

A. Education: Basic education which includes ability to competently read and write.

B. Training and Experience: Building material knowledge and computer skills are preferred

C. Job Knowledge: Not required but lumber and building material knowledge and computer skills are preferred.

D. Physical Demands: Work requires little physical effort, involves sitting, standing, walking, and some light lifting on a regular basis. Works in and out of an air conditioned environment. (Important: this job is classified in the physical demands section of the job description [Form IV-31] as constant light duty work and occasional medium work. This form must be reviewed with and signed by the applicant.)
