The Assistant Vice President, Domestic Income Tax leads the domestic income tax function for Fortune 100 retailer The TJX Companies. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Tax who reports to the Chief Financial Officer, the AVP oversees income tax planning, compliance and financial reporting. The AVP is part of our forty member Tax Department. She/he will develop and manage a team of tax talent (10+) including two direct reports. In addition to the day to day execution of company tax processes, this individual will build and maintain a culture of well controlled processes under Sarbanes-Oxley protocols. They will also play a key role in transforming existing tax processes to best-in-class practices by adopting, using and optimizing tax tools and technology. This highly visible position requires frequent interaction, influencing and partnering with internal and external resources in our customer-centric, collaborative business environment.

Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning
  • Assist in the development of complex multi-jurisdictional strategies to meet the challenges of the continuously evolving environments, including legislative and regulatory developments, as well as the changing requirements of the business
  • Collaborate with internal corporate partners in Legal, Treasury, Accounting, Human Resources as well as divisional business units on the successful implementation of all tax strategies
  • Team with the Corporate Planning and Analysis group to forecast the tax impact of all corporate budgeting and planning work
  • Lead tax department interests for all finance related IT projects
  • Align with, and leverage, department colleagues across tax disciplines including; international, research and examination
  • Consult, coordinate, and manage outside advisors as needed

Compliance
  • Lead quarterly and annual ASC 740 reporting of domestic income tax accounts, including maintenance of internal controls
  • Coordinate reporting with international divisions
  • Oversee the timely filing of all domestic income tax compliance, including periodic payments
  • Ensure maintenance of tax reporting capabilities out of ERP system, partnering with divisional finance groups to secure proper legal entity reporting
  • Transform reporting and compliance processes to best-in-class status by leveraging available tools and technology

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or equivalent required
  • Masters in Taxation or JD/LLM and/or CPA
  • Minimum 12 years of experience /at least 10 years of multi-state tax experience
  • Large, public accounting “Big 4” experience strongly preferred or large multinational U.S. based company headquarters experience
  • Superior technical tax and accounting skills
  • Ability to assess, recommend and implement opportunities for program change and enhancement
  • Demonstrated success building relationships and partnering with cross functional internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication abilities including verbal, written and presentation including the ability to present complex subjects to Executive leaders.
