Your work at OptumCare will have a provider focus, helping us to build actuarial support for our work with care delivery organizations. The provider focus is a departure from traditional health actuarial work and will lead to expertise in a burgeoning area for health actuarial.Â
Â
Examples of projects will include:
Developing capitation funding levels for specialty services and for global provider risk
Understanding provider performance and outcomes under ACO deals with payers, including the CMS MSSP program
Risk scoring, as a fundamental component of arrangements with payers
Provider profiling—identifying opportunities for improved performance on cost and quality measures
Evaluating the impact of changes in CMS provider payment mechanisms that are steering Medicare toward payment for value and quality
Developing utilization and cost benchmarks
Interacting with other groups within Optum on topics including tying to lag reporting, risk scoring, re-pricing, etc.
Primary Responsibilities:
Analyze and interpret the key drivers of health care trends
Develop pricing methodologies and assumptions
Develop new rates and prepare cost estimates
Conduct and evaluate studies on pricing, utilization and health care costs
Determine the impact on premiums and health product proposals
Perform mathematical analyses and actuarial modeling that provides management with statistical findings and conclusions
Design and run complex data programs
Perform quantitative analysis of actuarial, financial, utilization and costs data
Calculate reserves
Analyze forecasts and trends to help leaders make decisions

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Math, Actuarial Science, Statistics, or related field of study or equivalent experience
Minimum of 2 Actuarial exams passed
Minimum of 2 years of Actuarial experienceÂ
Advanced proficiency in MS Excel having worked with formulas, calculations, charts, pivot tables, and graphs
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience communicating complex information effectively
Experience working in the healthcare industry
At least a basic level of proficiency with SAS (Statistical Analysis System) and/or SQL (Structured Query Language)
