Key Responsibilities

  • Leads, supervises and coaches the store’s service technician team;
  • Verify the Shop Schedule is being used correctly; 
  • Assists Technicians as needed;
  • Walks and evaluates the Service Department;
  • Reviews the work orders on the jobs in the Service Department;
  • Reviews the daily job schedules for the Service Department and evaluate the jobs coming in for the day;
  • Verifies with the Technicians and Sales Personnel they have the parts needed to do the jobs they have in the Service Department;
  • Reviews the daily job schedules for the Technicians;
  • Verifies jobs are assigned based on Technicians experience;
  • Areas to review in the Service Department Work orders (filled out, quality assurance and damage inspection)
  • Equipment condition (jacks, lifts, tire changer & balancer, air compressor)
  • Tool condition (broken and/or missing)
  • Lighting (condition)
  • Floors clean (presentable, safe)
  • Shop Supplies (stock levels)
  • Mechanics Uniforms (condition)
  • Safety requirements (glasses, back belts, fire extinguishers, first aid & eye wash)
  • Oil (storage containers)
  • Jobs in shop (parts being installed correctly)
  • Drop Zone (Company Policy being followed)
  • Test driving (all jobs)
  • Training (daily basis, training needs)
  • Orders via fax, Service Department supplies by Friday;
  • Communicates with Regional Service Manager sometime during the day and talk about what is going on in your shop. Do not hesitate to call immediately with any major problems or questions;
  • Provides Customer service;
  • Ensures compliance with Company signing standards in the Service Department;
  • Reacts with urgency to changing sales opportunities;
  • Communicates current market trends to employees;
  • Ensures compliance to the stockroom (warehouse) standards;
  • Ensures compliance to Service Department standards (ie. Eye Protection);
  • Ensures compliance with the Company dress code policy (including Service Department);
  • Participates in mandatory training programs;
  • Ensures Technicians participation in mandatory training programs;
  • Maintains an awareness of daily/weekly sales and takes appropriate action;
  • Ensures the condition of the Service Department is being maintained;
  • Reviews, analyzes and takes appropriate action on all financial reports;
  • Ensures the Company assets are protected;
  • Ensures control of expenses;
  • Responds to verbal and written Customer comments/complaints/requests;
  • Ensures appropriate action is taken on all maintenance/repair needs in the Service Department;
  • Ensures defective merchandise handling procedures are followed;
  • Performs all repairs and services;
  • Participates in the repair and reconditioning of automobiles and trucks;
  • Participates in assembling and repairing cars and trucks;
  • Uses the computer based Equipment Management Information System to record work order information and access to other information;
  • Performs inspections of completed repairs to ensure thorough and quality of repair and suitability of vehicle for return to service;
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service;

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position directly supervises Technicians and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with 4 Wheel Parts policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, directing, rewarding, disciplining employees, appraising employee performance, resolving complaints, terminations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals;
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence;
  • Ability to speak effectively to both employees and Customers;
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, commissions, percentages and interest;

  • EPA and ADEQ regulations for spill containment and disposal of petroleum products used in a shop environment;
  • Experience with Mounting and Balancing Wheels and Tires is desired;
  • Experience with performing alignments is desired;
  • Experience with installing suspension components such as Independent Front Suspensions (IFS), Suspension Lift Kits and a Straight Axle Suspension is desired;
  • Experience with Gears is desired;
  • General trades techniques, materials and practices of trades that are related to automotive and mechanical repair work;
  • Proficiency with Hunter alignment machine;
  • Proven successful record of leading and supervising a team of employees;
  • Perform a broad range of automotive repairs; Organize assignments to meet work requirements;
  • Read and interpret system reports to aid in management of shop and performance of assigned duties;
  • Communicate orally in person in a one-to-one or group setting;
  • Read and comprehend Material Safety Data Sheets for chemicals used in the work environment and communicate to co-workers the precautions needed for safe handling of chemicals;
  • Enter data or information into a terminal, PC, or other keyboard device;
  • Work cooperatively with other company employees;
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to incumbent or others;
  • This is strenuous work requiring good corrected vision, hearing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching and lifting;

Physical Demands

  • Walk up to 5 hours without a break; up to 12 hours a day;
  • Talk and hear;
  • Use hands to finger, handle and/or feel objects, tools or controls;
  • Lift up to 50 pounds up to 3 feet and carry for a distance of 500 feet;
  • Push up to 25 pounds for a distance of 3 feet;
  • Pull up to 25 pounds for a distance of 3 feet;

Frequently required to do the following activities

  • Dynamically stand up to 5 hours without a break; up to 12 hours a day;
  • Reach up and out with hands and arms;
  • Lift up to 50 pounds up to 4 feet and carry for a distance of 500 feet;
  • Operate machinery;

Occasionally required to do the following activities

  • Sit up to 2 hours without a break; up to 8 hours a day;
  • Climb stairs and/or ladders;
  • Balance;
  • Twist upper torso;
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl;
  • Lift up to 100 pounds up to 3 feet and carry for a distance of 3 feet;

Rarely required to do the following activities

  • Lift up to more than 100 pounds up to 3 feet and carry for a distance of 3 feet;
  • Acceptable training and experience;

Three years of experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive and mechanical equipment as an automotive mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic or equipment repair specialist. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. ASE Certified a plus.
