Position Overview

As an Application Architect within PNC’s Retail Assets MIS organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA, Columbus, OH, Brecksville, OH, or any city in the PNC footprint. In this role you will function as an Application Architect for the Retail Assets MIS domain providing application architecture & design services, technical roadmap development, and application integration strategy development for a suite of over 50 applications supporting our consumer lending business. The technical environment is a mix of mainframe and distributed systems (Java, .NET), as well as specialty areas such as imaging systems, integration, workflow platforms, and third party applications.

The Application Architect will work as a member of the Retail Assets Architecture COE and partner with Retail Assets leadership, project leads and managers, as well as our Enterprise Architecture practice to ensure that high-quality solutions are being developed in alignment with enterprise architectural standards that meet or exceed the needs of the consumer lending business. TOGAF certification is preferred, and the Architect will be responsible for mapping system interactions from a TOGAF perspective as the group moves towards a more one data strategy.

In addition to developing the standards and guidelines for development artifacts across the group, the Architecture COE will also work to integrate an Agile development approach to Retail Assets MIS as part of PNC's Agile transformation initiative.

Job Profile


  • Participates in defining functional designs and application systems architecture across all technologies and platforms.
  • Designs an application's technical infrastructure, such as specific databases, programming languages, utilities, and testing approaches.
  • Participates in the assessment of software defects discovered during the quality assurance process.
  • Participates in addressing enterprise-wide platform and technology requirements for applications.
  • Develops detailed programming instructions to solve business problems through automation support.

Preferences/Skills

TOGAF certification strongly preferred
Any knowledge of BIAN also preferred
Exposure to data modeling - schemes and connectivity
Knowledge of File transmissions - internal and external
Proven ability to speak an influence at the group and senior leadership level

Certifications/Licenses

Required Education and Experience


Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree, with 5+ years of industry-relevant experience. Specific certifications are often required. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education and experience (including military service) may be considered.
