Job Description Job Title: Prepared Foods Team Leader/Manager Team: Prepared Foods Reports to: Store Team Leader Benefit Category: BC2 Status: Non-Exempt Job Code: S175 Job Summary: Teamwork is at the heart of Whole Foods Market, and you will lead a team with your creativity, passion for the product, and quality driven leadership style. The Prepared Foods Team Leader reports to the Store Team Leader and is guided by the Regional Prepared Foods Program Coordinator. In conjunction with the Store Leadership you will be responsible for Team Member hiring, development, terminations and generally holding your team accountable for their work. The Prepared Foods Team Leader is responsible for profitability, expense control (packaging and labor), inventory control, buying and merchandising, regulatory compliance, recipe development and special projects as assigned. Complete accountability for all aspects of team operations and perform all duties and responsibilities of team positions. Essential Duties: * Interview, select, train, evaluate, counsel and terminate Team Members. * Follow through on all customer questions and requests. * Create a labor schedule to leverage productivity within the needs of the department. * Ensure department orders for equipment, supplies and products are timely and accurate. * Keep all cases and shelves clean, well-stocked and properly rotated. * Ensure Chef/Cook are following up to date and accurate recipes. * Follow established food safety, cleaning and maintenance procedures. Basic knowledge of HACCP procedures. * Maintain accurate retail pricing and signage. * Oversee sampling of department products to the customers. * Supervise and maintain special order system. * Be aware of new products and their placement. * Ensure that product is cross-merchandised with other departments. * Maintain backstock areas and coolers. * Analyze and control product transfers, waste and spoilage. * Know and practice proper lifting techniques and safe use of all tools and equipment. * Practice proper care and maintenance of all equipment. * Report safety violations and hazards immediately; maintain department security. * Communicate with Team Members regarding all department operations. * Ensure department buyer meets weekly/monthly purchasing budget. * Conduct scheduled inventories and submit reports. * Maintain a contribution margin equal to or exceeding regional averages. * Communicate company goals and information to Team Members. * Know product availability, preparation, storage and nutritional aspects. * Oversee adjustment of displays according to movement, promotions and profitability. * Keep Store Leadership informed of all events that affect the department. * Ensure that product mix meets varied customer dietary needs and requests. * Participate in regional and national sales promotions. * Have a firm understanding of department financials and labor budgets. * Accept and process product from Receiver. * Schedule and lead department team meetings; attend store and regional meetings. * Visit the competition on a monthly basis and react to current industry trends. * Perform Team Member duties as required to run the department. * Regular attendance is essential. * Perform other duties as assigned by Store Leadership/Coordinator. * Maintain and adhere to weekly/monthly cleaning schedule. Job Requirements: * Must be self-motivated and solution-oriented. * Excellent merchandising skills and eye for detail. * Must have a current Serv-Safe certificate. * Ability to maintain good relationships with vendors and the community. * Good communicator and motivator; able to work well with others and convey enthusiasm. * Train and inspire Team Members to excellence in all aspects of the department. * Knowledge of natural foods. * Is available for flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the department. * Basic knowledge of Excel, Outlook, and Word Working Conditions: * Some reaching above and below shoulder height. * Some exposure to dust, fumes and chemicals. * Repetitive use of hands and fine manipulation. * May need to use a ladder or stool to reach product or supplies. * Exposure to continuous background and occasional loud noises. * Any item over 40 pounds requires a team lift.
