Seeds of Peace Camp brings together youth from across the state of Maine and across the United States to build community, share perspectives, and gain the skills to make change. Seeds of Peace Camp is a place for youth from different backgrounds, experiences, and identities to come together to participate in dialogue, waterfront, arts, sports, and community-building activities in a supportive Camp environment. We are seeking a FOOD SERVICE DIRECTOR to keep our community fed, healthy & happy this year!

The Food Service Director is responsible for the overall food-service program, including purchasing, nutrition, service, sanitation, kitchen personnel management and training, dining hall service and readiness, record-keeping, and budget oversight. The dates of service are June 26, 2023 – August 18, 2023.

The position requires the ability to facilitate the duties and responsibilities of creating, implementing, and maintaining the culinary needs for the Camp's Food Service Program. Providing the camp with clean, comfortable surroundings, ensuring correct timing, quantity and that the quality is accurately provided for all meal periods and special requests.

The right candidate for this job will enjoy cooking for 6-12 hours at a time, 6 days per week. This position involves working on your feet, climbing stairs, and pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time. Shifts for this position are both day and night and include weekends and holidays.

The Food Service Director assists in recruitment and training of all Food Services staff as needed and must ensure that the required complement of skilled and certified staff is available for all Food Services roles.

At the end of Camp season, the Food Service Director supervises efficient packing of kitchen operations. The Food Service Director also provides the Camp Operations Director with a formal report that includes evaluations of the Food Service staff and an operations review with recommendations for the next camp season.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years High Volume Commercial Kitchen Experience
  • Experience in accommodating an array of dietary needs including allergens, vegan, vegetarian and religious dietary needs such as Kosher style and Halal
  • Holds current Servesafe Manager level Certification or equivalent certification
  • Able to both lead a team & take direction
  • Must commit to the entire Camp season including set up and end of season break down
  • Must demonstrate integrity, honesty and knowledge that promote the culture, values, and mission of Seeds of Peace Camp
  • Personable, Friendly, and Approachable. Ability to self- motivate. Accepts responsibility for own actions and follows through on commitments
  • Ability to use a computer to send and receive email, submit orders to vendors.
  • Willing to work 6-day work week, 10-12 hours per day
  • Follows company policies and procedures
  • Must understand the at-risk youth population
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be a high school graduate or hold equivalent GED
  • Preference is given to residents who live in the surrounding communities with a desire to commute daily

COVID-19 AND CAMP

Seeds of Peace is monitoring the pandemic and incorporating appropriate COVID-19 precautions into our 2023 planning. Camper and staff health is of our highest concern. We will share and update COVID-19 protocols according to the American Camping Association and Maine Department of Health and Human Services guidelines and based on our 2021 experience, where we did not have any COVID cases!
