The City of Peoria Water Services is currently seeking candidates to fill two full-time positions as a Utility Plant Operator II at the Beardsley Wastewater Reclamation Facility. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is an experienced operator looking to work in a great team environment with opportunities to learn and grow.

We are looking for someone with wastewater plant operations experience that can take on more advanced-level work and responsibility. Moreover, under general supervision, perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of the treatment plant. Duties will include monitoring treatment plant and auxiliary sub-systems and making adjustments as necessary; responding to alarms; collecting and analyzing water samples; and maintaining plant daily operational logs and laboratory records for state compliance reporting. If you are a certified operator who enjoys working in wastewater treatment facilities, then this is the job for you.

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Strong mathematical, mechanical, and science skills.
  • The ability to engage in logical processes for troubleshooting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • The ability to maintain treatment systems (piping, pumps, valves and tanks) and collect field and facility samples.
  • Knowledge to prepare chemical treatments for plant and effluent systems.
  • Skills to operate instrumentation for treatment systems and meters.
  • The ability to calibrate, repair, and troubleshoot treatment systems and meters.
  • Mastery of tool use in repairing wastewater plant auxiliary systems.
  • The ability to respond to emergencies at a moment's notice.
  • Skills in creating records and observations and engaging in reporting of issues and lapse of best practices.
  • The ability to maintain vehicles, work area, and equipment.
  • The initiative to encourage the effective use of technology to improve facility operations.
  • The foresight to foster change at the facility to address emerging issues.
  • The ability to engage in continuous quality improvement activities, performance measurement, and benchmarking.
  • Skills in clearly articulating issues, problems, and processes.
  • Demonstrated a strong commitment to plant safety activities, practices, and standards.
  • A drive and enthusiasm to learn.
  • An ability to take direction from others, work with others, and learn from more experienced peers.
  • A willingness to work outside of normal work hours to support various projects or assignments.
  • A willingness to work off-shift, weekend, and shift coverage schedules.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: High School Graduation or Equivalency
  • Experience: 2-4 years of experience. Considerable previous experience required in the same or similar previous positions. The job requires a sound knowledge of common and uncommon techniques, concepts, methods, practices, use of forms, routines, etc., of a complex nature.
  • Physical Demands: Work requires heavy physical exertion and effort.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Arizona Class "D" Driver's License upon hire
  • One (1) Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade III certificate upon hire in appropriate field
