Overview

As a Survey Technician for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC), you will be part of a survey field team performing work on topographic surveys, right-of-way surveys, construction stakeouts, and as-built surveys throughout the Southwest. You will perform field work utilizing surveying principles/practices and through the use of modern survey equipment. You will operate instrumentation, clear brush, drive stakes, hold chains or rods, record data, prepare sketches and maintain equipment as needed. Ultimately, this position will provide a foundation for further professional development as a land surveyor.

Key Responsibilities:

    Collaborate with and provide survey support for engineering and construction management services;
  • Under the direction of a PLS or survey lead, perform work using survey equipment such as GPS, total stations, and photogrammetric;
  • Assist in the establishment of survey monuments, control points, and aerial targets;
  • Assist in the compilation of field survey notes and preparation of sketches/diagrams;
  • Performs construction staking, grade certifications, and as-built surveys on large linear infrastructure projects;
  • Performs work in accordance with standard surveying principles and practice;
  • Performs other related duties such as testing/maintaining equipment, restocking supplies, and operation/maintenance of company vehicles;
  • Ensure the safety of field personnel.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED;
  • Proven experience in surveying on design-build, large public works or similar infrastructure projects;
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for clear documentation and interaction with project teams;
  • Ability to work safely, collaboratively, and proactively in a team environment;
  • Ability to effectively follow instructions and communicate with the contractor;
  • Able to work outside for long periods in remote locations and inclement weather;
  • Valid Driver's License.

Preferred Capabilities:

  • Associates or Bachelors in Survey Engineering, Geomatic Engineering, or other related field preferred;
  • Proficiency in processing and extracting data from survey equipment for use in AutoCAD and GIS software.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities;
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
