Summary:

Chesley Brown International is seeking a Fire and Life Safety Manager for PPG Place in Downtown Pittsburgh. The FLSM at PPG Place acts as the Department Head for all property fire and life safety elements. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Security. This full-time position will require the candidate to work Monday – Friday during business hours, with occasional weekends and overnights required for testing or training. The starting wage for the position is $46,384.00 per year.

 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

 

1.     Oversees operational testing of fire system equipment by service contractors and ensures testing is completed in accordance with applicable standards and regulations.

 

2.     Maintains thorough documentation of all fire system repairs/maintenance, inspection reports, testing/certification reports, training, audits, and emergency planning activities/exercises.

 

3.     Identify corrective actions necessary to bring the property into compliance with applicable fire codes, laws, regulations, and standards and explain these measures to management.

 

4.     Organizes and conducts formal classroom and practical instruction sessions regarding fire safety, emergency procedures, building evacuations, and similar safety-related topics.

 

5.     Assists in developing and revising property All-Hazards Plan and emergency procedures.

 

6.     Assist with the planning and coordination of city-required emergency drills.

 

7.     Respond to emergency calls and provide assistance as needed.

 

8.     Provide quality customer service and maintain professional appearance and communication.

 

9.     Perform additional duties assigned by management.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

1.     General knowledge of fire suppression systems and how they work.

 

2.     Ability to look up codes and laws and apply them practically to the life safety systems of the building. 

 

3.     Must possess good public speaking skills and be comfortable in a teacher/instructor role.

 

4.     Ability to relay industry/safety-related information to non-industry personnel.

 

5.     Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching, and instruction for individuals and groups.

 

6.     Competent computer skills in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

 

7.     Ability to set priorities of work functions and manage multiple tasks.

 

8.     Ability to function as individual contributor as well as team player.

 

 

Education and Experience:

 

This position requires an associate's or a bachelor’s degree in fire, health and safety, or a related field.  A combination of relevant training, certifications, and work experience to the equivalent of at least five years of practical experience is also acceptable.

 

Must be comfortable in a teacher/instructor role. 

 

CPR/First Aid/AED certified (preferred).

 

The following are highly desirable:  Fire Fighter 1 or 2; Fire Inspector 1 or 2; Fire Instructor 1, 2, or 3; Fire Officer 1, 2, 3, or 4; Fire Marshal certification (NFPA 1037).
