Job Objective:

As our Spiritual and Emotional Care Lead, you will provide chaplaincy support for the staff and residents of The Salvation Army Women and Children's Center (WCC), and support individuals and families in our community who are seeking assistance by providing spiritual direction, opportunities for Bible Studies and other discipleship activities and opportunities. Services to include ministry outreach at the facility and within the community, all in an effort to effectively carry out the mission of The Salvation Army.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide spiritual assessment to determine needs of families seeking physical assistance within the first three days of intake. Develop ongoing appointments for discipleship and spiritual care for residents who choose to do
  • Coordinate with the Family Ministries Coordinator in the ongoing care of residents in the community.
  • Coordinate and/or facilitate life skill courses for fiscal management, parenting skills, and offer focused group Bible Studies, in coordination with Family Ministries Coordinator.
  • Provide ministry services to residents and individuals within the community via outreach efforts; collaborate with Lead Care Coordinator in street outreach efforts.
  • Provide transportation on Sunday mornings and various weekdays for worship and character development opportunities at local Salvation Army units.
  • Assist with summer children activities/camp including residents at the WCC, Barton Apartments, and Carpenter Center; may provide transportation for parents and children.
  • Be on call for support in times of crisis or urgency no matter the time of day or night.
  • Provide and/or make arrangements for debriefing following critical incidents as needed.
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership

Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: Associate's/Bachelor's degree in chaplaincy, psychology, or related field is strongly preferred.

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed. Findings may disqualify an individual for this position

Experience: Prior work experience in a social setting providing services to persons in crisis preferred; comfort and competence in providing spiritual care and ministry outreach; chaplaincy experience preferred.

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment; must complete Chaplaincy Certification Program within 120 days of employment; CISM training preferred.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems
  • Able to represent the Christian mission of The Salvation Army and provide guidance and support to individuals and families seeking to develop in their spiritual health.

Supervisory Responsibility: No supervisory responsibilities

Physical Requirements Include:

  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
  • Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds
  • May require bending, squatting, walking
  • May require standing for extended periods

Travel: Some traveling required.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office, residential environment; may require some weekend and evening work
