POSITION SUMMARY: The Service Lead is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead electrical distribution systems. This position works at various locations and may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands. The right candidate for this position will be team-oriented, customer-focused, and most importantly adhere to all Stella May safety and other policies.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead work
  • Responsibly supervise service crew
  • String overhead wire
  • Troubleshoot secondary systems
  • Frequently work with energized secondary systems requiring skill and care to protect themselves and the lives of others
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order
  • Plan safe work based on a job print or work order
  • Conduct a pre-job/tailgate briefing
  • Safely install and remove mechanical jumpers
  • Perform any other duties required to complete a job

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS
The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Must be able to climb different types of structures (i.e. wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so (Does employer provide tools or do individuals own their own equipment for climbing?)
  • Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform key duties
  • Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools
  • Work at elevated heights and/or in confined spaces
  • Possess willingness to glove/work live secondary voltage distribution power lines
  • Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds personally, and up to 100 pounds with assistance
  • Manual dexterity to hand-carry generators, lumber and other construction materials, power tools, and hand tools
  • Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment
  • Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions
  • Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project
  • Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 3 years' recent field experience
  • Commercial Driver's License is strongly preferred or must have ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License permit within 60 days of hire
  • Proficient understanding of M/I standards
  • Commitment to work overtime when requested
  • Willingness and commitment to work storm restoration as needed
  • Ability to read and communicate proficiently in English
  • Ability to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE
  • Ability to travel long distances for job on short notice and work for extended periods in various locations including out of state, when required
  • Ability to operate and maintain an MDT

Requirements
Competencies & requirements:

  • Understanding of how to use a load bust tool
  • Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit
  • Perform and demonstrate grounding procedure
  • Demonstrate ability to properly dress in and remove PPE as well as cover ups when appropriate
  • Strong Familiarity with induced voltage
  • Communication skills, ability to comprehend instruction
  • Competent Person Training, OSHA training, First Aid CPR, company provided
  • Demonstrate mastery utilizing various testing equipment (i.e. Amp Meter, Secondary Volt Tester, Potential Indicator, etc.)
