Job Description
Summary: The Process Engineer identifies and performs process optimization programs to significantly improve the safety, productivity, and quality of manufacturing facilities and systems. This position plays a key role in identifying opportunities for process improvements through data collection and analysis. Fulfill job responsibilities by actively contributing to plant improvements and establishing sound working relationships with plant operations management and staff. Leverage effectiveness through utilization of interdepartmental resources and appropriate outside resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Includes the following, other duties may be assigned.)
Process Engineering
· Work on Continuous Improvement Projects as identified or needed. Areas of emphasis include: manufacturing cost reduction, capacity improvements/cycle time reductions, energy and waste reduction, and process reliability.
· Serve as a technical resource for the plant locations and other departments. Assist facilities with troubleshooting particular problems in the manufacturing environments.
· Drive process improvement on automated systems using existing and new analysis tools.
· Maintain equipment and instrument specifications as needed.
· Create and modify Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s).
· Create and modified Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s).
· Coordinate within local operations, EH&S and Corporate Engineering to improve production processes through the use of CAPEX projects, 5S, Six Sigma and Lean methodologies.
Project Management
· Initiate Capital Appropriation Requests (CARs) driven by process optimization efforts, capacity expansion or any other business requirements.
· Define project scope in sufficient detail to allow implementation of projects that attain all functionality requirements, are completed within budget, and meet the defined schedule.
· Manage or self-perform the design, procurement, construction management and the turnover to operations of assigned projects.
· Identify and use good engineering practice in the execution of all projects.
· Proactively evaluate projects for operator safety in operation and develop initial SOPs and provide training to necessary plant personnel.
· Start-up, or support the start-up of new systems and direct the implementation of procedural changes.
· Evaluate the performance of all projects / programs implemented and report results to management
· Other duties as assigned
Required Education and/or Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or similar field
· Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Manufacturing Engineer roles
· Six Sigma experience and desire to obtain Black Belt certification
· Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook / Excel / Word)
· Excellent administrative and organizational skills
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Strong interpersonal skills; An approachable demeanor that is firm, fair, honest and consistent in all situations.
· Detail oriented with good math and analytical skills
· Ability to work with minimal supervision
· Ability to think critically and quickly in order to make sound decisions regarding production needs in any given situation.
