Purpose of the Job

The PMO Manager is responsible for the management of assigned PMO staff to guide the delivery of projects by providing operational and strategic support. The PMO Manager will ensure all PMO procedures and policies are defined, documented, and adhered to by staff, and that all delivery tools and systems are optimized for managing and delivering projects. The PMO Manager will continually evaluate projects to ensure that they are meeting PMO standards, budget requirements, and established deadlines to mitigate unfavorable impacts to the overall portfolio. The PMO Manager is responsible for providing reporting to management for project oversight and governance.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Defines, documents, and maintains project management processes, procedures, and templates in accordance with PMBOK methodologies.
  • Manages, coaches, and mentors staff to ensure project management methodology and delivery tools/systems are properly and consistently applied across projects.
  • Develops and delivers training to reinforce and instill project management methodology, concepts, and best practices to ensure proper staff development and performance management.
  • Supports the development, implementation and use of all delivery tools and systems to optimize the efficient delivery and reporting for all projects to drive decisions and promote results.
  • Provides accurate and timely reporting on each project's performance in support of the organization's oversight, governance and portfolio management.
  • Proactively oversees the development and management of each project's scope, budget, schedule, deliverables, dependencies and critical path.
  • Continually monitors project performance; provides leadership to Project Management staff to resolve complex problems as needed to mitigate negative impacts to the project and portfolio.
  • Maintains an accurate and comprehensive repository of all project documentation. Effectively utilizes change control procedures to manage, document, communicate, and obtain approval for scope changes.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with business partners, key stakeholders and resource providers to develop, prioritize and define projects.
  • Effectively fields leadership escalations, using sound business judgment to identify appropriate course of resolution.
  • Owns deliverables and outcomes for each project managed by the Project Management team.
  • Establishes, promotes and fosters a proactive, continuous improvement culture through surveys and post implementation reviews to apply learnings to future projects through collaboration with business partners and PMO team.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring and developing a competent team.
  • Collaborates with the PMO Director to assign project work across the team.
  • Manages outsourced/contracted PM resources.
  • Manages projects assigned to the PMO Manager.
  • Develops and reports on Key Performance Indicators for project level reporting.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and stooping required
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for moderate periods of time and use a computer
  • Must be able to moderately lift or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds

Education and Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or, equivalent work experience required
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in Project Management - Financial Industry Experience Preferred
  • PMP Certification required
