Are you ready for an exciting adventure? Leidos is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cargo Supervisor to oversee the efficient handling and movement of cargo at our Port Hueneme facility. This position will require supervising a team of 5 full-time Material Expediters and 2 temporary Material Expediters. The successful candidate must have the physical capabilities to stand for the full length of a shift, repetitively lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds, and adjust their body position for various physical tasks to include bending, stooping, kneeling, turning, and pivoting. Additionally, the candidate must hold a valid forklift operator certification and have obtained certification in hazardous material processing within the last 5 years.

Deployment to McMurdo Station may be required of this position annually for a time period of 1 to 2 months. Eligibility for deployment will require physical and dental evaluations with parameters determined by the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Per contract requirements, US Citizenship is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance. Failure to meet these requirements will result in withdrawal of employment offer or other employment action.

Our expected salary range for this role will be between $70,000 to $80,000 annually.

About the Antarctic Support Contract:

Leidos Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) is the prime contractor to the National Science Foundation (NSF) in support of the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). Leidos supports the NSF’s Office of Polar Program’s Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics by aligning with their Mission and Vision Statements:

  • Vision: Expanding our scientific reach in Antarctica through increased operational and logistical effectiveness.

  • Mission: To provide the operational and logistical platform necessary for the U.S. to conduct world-class science in Antarctica and maintain its active and influential presence on the continent.

Leidos ASC provides science and logistics support for approximately 150 science and technical events across three geographically remote research stations; McMurdo Station, Palmer Station, and South Pole Station and several deep field sites across Antarctica. Each station or field site supports world class research across multiple science disciplines. The planning and implementation of science support requirements in Antarctica is a critical part of our mission.

Your Main Objective:

  • Manage and lead a team of 5 full-time Material Expediters and 2 seasonal temporary Material Expediters.

  • Provide training, mentorship, and guidance to the Material Expediters, ensuring a high level of proficiency in their roles. This includes providing timely performance feedback and conducting annual performance evaluations.

  • Enforce safety regulations and best practices, promoting a culture of safety awareness among the cargo handling team.

  • Manage the timely and accurate receipt and documentation of all inbound material and cargo.

  • Oversee inventory levels, set daily work schedules for the warehouse area, and manage the flow of materials throughout the warehouse. Implement efficient control measures to prevent discrepancies.

  • Coordinate the shipping or pickup of inboard material from suppliers’ locations to the receiving dock.

  • Determine the most cost-efficient shipping mode of cargo based on the required on-site date.

  • Coordinate the resolution of material and cargo issues with material and cargo owners and the Procurement Department.

  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between teams, including logistics, warehouse, and transportation, to ensure seamless cargo operations.

  • Utilize your certified forklift operation skills to support cargo handling activities efficiently.

  • Apply your hazardous material processing forklift certification to safely and compliantly handle and process hazardous cargo.

  • Operate powered and non-powered material handling equipment in conjunction with daily duties.

  • Assist the Port Hueneme Operations Manager with the hiring for open warehouse positions.

  • May serve as the delegate for the PTH Operations Manager when the incumbent is unavailable.

  • Operate both powered and non-powered MHE, as needed, in conjunction with daily duties.

What Sets You Apart:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 5+ years of diversified experience in logistics, warehousing, receiving, and discrepancy resolution; additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Proven experience in cargo operations and supervision, preferably in a similar industry.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively manage a diverse team and foster a positive work environment.

  • Understanding of packing and movement of material and cargo via commercial and military modes of transportation.

  • Working knowledge of the food and beverage industry to include inspection, storage, and transport of food and beverage-related items.

  • Familiarity with cargo handling equipment and warehouse management systems, specifically military supply ordering and priority assignment system.

  • Physical ability to stand for the full length of a shift and perform manual tasks related to cargo handling.

  • Capability to repetitively lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds and adjust body position for bending, stooping, kneeling, walking, turning, and pivoting.

  • Valid forklift operator certification. Certification in hazardous material processing obtained within the last 5 years.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Must be in possession of or have the ability to possess a favorable public trust, or higher, adjudication.

Pay Range:Pay Range $61,750.00 - $111,625.00
