Are you passionate about high-quality environmental work, innovation, and superior client service? SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking two (2) highly experienced, dynamic, self-motivated Natural Resources Project Managers (Level II or Level III) with strong interpersonal skills and experience in natural resources management and biological studies. This individual will successfully drive our projects throughout all phases from early planning and permitting through construction. This candidate should reside in the greater Houston, TX as it will require an office-based or hybrid work schedule, reporting to the office 3-5 times per week.

Our Natural Resources program works on diverse natural resources-related projects across many business lines, including oil and gas, renewable energy, utilities, infrastructure, transportation, and mining projects.

This is a regular (with benefits), full-time, position. The pay rate will be based on individual qualifications and experience. SWCA offers a team-oriented work environment, competitive salaries, and a solid benefits package, including an employee stock ownership retirement plan (ESOP).

This requisition can hire at two levels:

  • Associate Project Manager - Natural Resources: Typically, up to five (5) years of relevant experience and expertise.
  • Project Manager- Natural Resources: Typically, up to seven (7) years of relevant experience and expertise

What you will accomplish

  • Assist or serve as project manager or technical lead on a variety of resource management planning projects
  • Assistant or manage small and large-sized natural resources tasks and projects, including maintaining budgets, schedules, safety, and quality of service
  • Supervise, mentor, and provide project technical support to staff-level biologists and field staff
  • Work closely with a project team to develop innovative approaches to resource assessment and write proposals that meet client needs and can withstand agency and public scrutiny
  • Take initiative and resolve issues to assure client needs are met effectively
  • Work with Corporate accounting department to review invoices, expenditures, and project audits for projects/tasks
  • Work closely with SWCA's resource scientists and environmental planners, managers, and directors in both natural and cultural resources throughout the company to promote SWCA's business interests in adherence to its mission, vision, and values
  • Implement and administer SWCA's safety procedures and standards of scientific and professional ethics
  • Assist and/or lead biological technical desktop and field assessments and survey efforts including fieldwork, preparing and providing peer review for technical reports and environmental permits such as biological resource assessments and constraints analyses, State and federal endangered species act consultations, wetland delineation and CWA Section 404/401 permitting.
  • Conduct scientific assessment and statistical analyses
  • Must be open to 25% travel annually

Experience and qualifications for success

Required

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science, natural resource management, geology, or other related field required;
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience performing permitting, environmental, ecological, or natural resources studies, surveys, or projects in the private or public sector
  • Experience as a natural resources project manager; including staff and project team supervision
  • Extensive working knowledge of federal and state laws (e.g., NEPA, CWA, and ESA) governing natural resource management
  • Demonstrated experience with federal agencies such as US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Federal Emergency Management FEMA, US Forest Service (USFS), and/or US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and other state/local agencies

Preferred

  • A minimum of 7 years experience as a natural resources project manager
  • Demonstrated experience working knowledge of the Galveston and Fort Worth Corps of Engineers Districts
  • Experience working with renewable energy, oil & gas, transportation, public utilities, land development clients
  • Experience and ability to manage multiple complex projects and programs, in diverse settings and with changing requirements
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced work environment, and a desire to work in a highly collaborative team atmosphere.
  • Experience and/or a strong interest in supporting business development efforts

An employee in this Houston, TX - based position can expect a salary of: Associate Project Manager - between $ 65,520.00/yr. to $84,084.00/yr.; Project Manager - between $72,072.00/yr. to $92,820.00/yr. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
