Have leadership experience and want to work around animals? Join our Safari Team as a Safari Operations Supervisor! See animals as they play, give birth, and even watch them grow up as you oversee our Safari Off-Road Adventure ride. Responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of daily operation, including but not limited to supervising team members, assisting with guest concerns, problem solving any issues that arise, and maintaining a fun, but safe work environment. The safari season runs March-November with training starting as early as January.   

Qualifications:

  • Previous management/leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Able to work under pressure and make quick and appropriate decisions.
  • Must be comfortable speaking in small groups and large crowds both on and off microphone.
  • Must be willing to work 40-60 hours per week, including before and after normal shift times if necessary. Must have open availability including weekends and holidays.
  • Must be professional, energetic, self-motivated, able to motivate others, and have a positive attitude
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Be able to learn other computer programs and websites as needed.
  • Able to work outdoors and be exposed to all weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Must have excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Must be a team player and treat co-workers, upper management, their team, and other departments with respect.
  • Able to communicate effectively in the English language, including the ability to read, speak, write, and comprehend.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, climb stairs or into large off-road vehicles, bend, stoop, reach, twist, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have ability to work in close proximity to animals.
  • Able to handle difficult guests calmly and effectively.
  • Problem solver- anticipate needs proactively execute them.
  • Must be reliable and show up for scheduled shifts on time.
  • Must maintain a strong commitment to safety.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Must learn to tour guide and/or drive.
  • Supervise Safari Off-Road Adventure team members including drivers, guides, gate guards, and station attendants.
  • Familiar with Safari Off-Road Adventure truck protocols and Driver Handbook
  • Familiar with the Safari Off-Road Adventure Guidebook and able to identify all species in the safari park.
  • Familiar with the Safari Gate Guard Handbook.
  • Assist with trainings, both PowerPoint and hands on, including developing and presenting material.
  • Attend daily park meetings to report Safari staffing numbers and events to other departments.
  • Know the steps of the hiring process. Assist with hiring new and returning team members.
  • Able to properly communicate on radio.
  • Work closely and cooperatively with team members of other departments including but not limited to, Auto Shop, Electronics, Retail, Guest Services, and Safety Department.
  • Work closely with the Administrative Supervisors in regard to team members progression and certifications, and any scheduling related concerns.
  • Assist in running our Safari-Off Road Education programs.
  • Become rides certified and assist with achieving throughput goals.
  • Work closely with the Safari supervisors and the Wardens to better the guest experience.
  • Implement guest service programs, and continually follow up with staff regarding them.
  • Continually monitor the cleanliness of all areas
  • Ensure the safety of all team members and guests
  • Ensure that all team members are following department and park protocols
  • Develop a well-trained and efficient staff following established guidelines.
  • Make decisions with direct guidance from Safari supervisors regarding team member hiring, coaching moments and disciplinary actions.
  • Bring any issues up to upper management in a timely manner.
  • Administer any needed team member coaching and counselings in a timely manner.
  • Identify areas for continued improvement; develop and implement strategies to enhance these areas.
  • Adhere to all Six Flags and departmental policies at all times.
  • Maintain open communication with leadership team in a timely manner. This includes notes regarding daily recaps, in the moment Commuinication, sit down meetings, etc.
  • Work with administrative supervisors to manage inventory for the area.
  • Work with administrative supervisors regarding any maintenance needed and submit work orders as needed. Maintain communication regarding progress and follow up with departments as needed.

Physical Demands

  • Will be standing, sitting, kneeling, bending and/or crouching for extended periods of time
  • Moderate walking to and from work location in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. This includes pulling and pushing gates in safari or lifting gates on the truck.
  • May be regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outdoor weather conditions including extreme cold or heat.
  • May be in close proximity to free roaming animals.
  • Occasionally exposed to high and/or precarious places
  • May be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals (PPE will be supplied)
  • Noise level of work environment is moderate
