Frequency of Overtime: Moderate to High during the busy season

Job Summary:
A CPA firm specializing in individual income tax-related services for Japanese companies is looking for an experienced Tax Manager with Japanese bilingual skills. As the Tax Manager, you will be overseeing various aspects of tax services including the preparation and management of individual tax returns for federal, state, local, FBAR, and payroll processing for expatriates/international assignees (primarily from Japan).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT ARE LIMITED TO:
* Compile and organize the list of individual tax clients for the upcoming tax year.
* Gather payroll data of Japanese expatriates from client companies.
* Review payroll data and create a concise summary for preparer to work on.
* Perform review and follow up on individual client tax data produced by preparers.
* Approve and sign off income tax returns prepared during the peak tax season.
* Generate and present summaries of tax results for each client.
* Review and endorse income tax returns and tax equalization for US employees stationed abroad.
* Manage the payroll process for US subsidiaries of Japanese companies, involving data collection, accuracy review, tax gross-up calculation, and collaboration with third-party payroll companies.
* Provide training and development opportunities for staff in tax department of the firm's US and Japan offices.
* Conduct in-person visits and virtual meetings with client companies after tax seasons.
* Coordinate and actively participate in presentations organized by alliance members.
* Other duties requested by Management.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance Business Management, or a related field.
* 5+ years of experience in individual income tax preparation.
* Strong knowledge of gross-up and expatriate payroll processes.
* Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
* Effective communication and leadership abilities.
* Willingness to participate in client meetings both in person and virtual.
* Experience of managing a team of staff.
* Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license (preferred).
* Bilingual Japanese and English (reading, writing, speaking).
