Description

The Leave Replacement Education Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all educational services provided to the children at the Home. This includes overseeing and arranging for school placements in the community, on site and purchased educational services and arranging for school placement and follow up after discharge or transfer.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assesses the educational needs and develops an overall educational plan for each youth in care

2. Ensures that youth are enrolled in school within 3 days of arrival to the program, and that there are no barriers to starting school in a timely manner

3. Is responsible for acquiring all necessary relevant school data and arranging for placement in schools in the community and/or review by the C.S.E

4. Attends all C.S.E. and I.E.P. meetings and represents The Children's Home. Attends all necessary school meetings and arranges to have appropriate individuals attend conferences or meetings on youth or school related problems

5. Uploads enrollment confirmation, report cards and other progress reports issued by the school into the UC Portal in a timely manner.

6. Is knowledgeable about 504 and IEP plans and serves as an advocate for youth in need of extra services and as a liaison with respect to facilitating this process with the school

7. Acts as agency liaison to all parties regarding educational matters

8. Serves as the primary liaison for communicating important messages from the school district to program staff.

9. Makes on site visits at school placements, works closely with classroom and school personnel to support their efforts

10. Is available to provide direct intervention in crisis situations involving youth and school placements

11. Assures follow up activities at the Home to support the educational plan

12. Arranges for and oversees the transportation arrangements for youth to and from schools

13. Assures appropriate educational activities are provided for youth temporarily excluded from school

14. Is sensitive to and supportive of the children's cultural and ethnic heritage and values

15. Assists Clinicians, Case Managers, and Youth Counselor Supervisors in follow up activities as it relates to the school and education.

16. Attends team meetings as necessary to provide/obtain relevant information

17. Arranges and provides oversight for tutoring services

18. Completes reports relevant to the Education Department, as needed

19. Oversees the development and implementation of a Summer SChool program for all LTFC youth, including the organization of field trips as relevant to learning objectives

20. Manage Title I funding in collaboration with the school district

21. Knowledgeable in remote learning technology and other supportive and interactive academic support software

22. Other duties as assigned by the AED for Child Welfare or AED for Federally Funded Programs

Schedule: Monday through Friday 9am-5pm, 35 hours/week

Leave replacement is through the rest of the school year.

Qualifications

Essential: (Required)

1. Bachelor's Degree and holds a Teaching Certification.

2. Some educational experience or administrative experience required.

3. Special education experience.

4. Valid New York State Driver's License with good driving record as determined by the Agency

Non-Essential: (preferred)

1. MS.ED. CSW or other appropriate Masters Level Certification.

2. TESOL Certification.

3. Experience teaching special education or english language learners

4. Experience in the Child Welfare field
