The Life Product Actuary will join a team of actuaries and analysts within the Product Development department of Protective's Protection Division.
The Life Product Actuary will have several primary objectives: 1) partner effectively with product management and implementation teams to modernize product offerings for profitable growth, 2) execute best practice pricing techniques for assumption setting and financial modeling in adherence to internal Pricing Standards, and 3) communicate product initiatives to build trust and secure governance approvals from senior management.

For actuarial positions within the Actuarial Program, we aim to develop employees both through completion of actuarial examination and through practical experience. We support employees through the completion of the actuarial examination and credentialing process via competitive paid study time and full coverage of exam expenses (SOA exam fees and exam preparation material). We also provide well-rounded experience via rotations across job functions and product lines.
Eligibility for certain aspects of the Actuarial Program vary by position and are dependent upon the employee staying within good standing with the Actuarial Program.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead the pricing and development of life insurance products (primarily Variable Universal Life and Indexed Universal Life, but also other products and features as assigned) in accordance with the company's financial goals, marketing objectives, and risk appetite
  • Lead the modeling and analysis of product financial cash flows (Statutory and GAAP) and associated risks.
  • Ensure adequate internal model controls and suitable documentation of results and processes, while adhering to internal Pricing Standards
  • Present findings to management and business leaders in a manner that helps drive business decisions and complies with governance approval process
  • Help direct Competitive Intelligence team in providing appropriate data and information to optimally support product work
  • Lead ad hoc projects supporting departmental responsibilities (e.g., product implementation, legal and filing support, in force management and compliance, systems support, marketing and sales support, reinsurance support, etc.)
  • Support acquisition due diligence and new business integration efforts as assigned
  • Demonstrate high levels of integrity while adhering to Actuarial Standards of Practice
  • Manage junior to mid-level employees and help foster a collaborative and high performing work environment focused on professional growth

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, and/or related major
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, with current CPD compliance
  • 5+ years of relevant actuarial work experience in Life Pricing or a closely related function
  • Excellent technical (especially financial modeling) ability
  • Able to communicate complex actuarial topics to both actuaries and non-actuaries
  • PBR knowledge is preferred
  • MG-ALFA experience is preferred
  • Variable Universal Life and/or Indexed Universal Life experience is preferred * Management experience is preferred
Protective's targeted salary range for this position is $120,000 to $180,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including (but not limited to) job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective's total compensation package for employees. This position is eligible to participate in our Annual Incentive Plan, which offers additional compensation based on individual and Company performance.
Protective's targeted salary range for this position is $120,000 to $180,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including (but not limited to) job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective's total compensation package for employees.
