• Learn operations of the Police Department first-hand through observation and participation in a wide variety of police activities.

POPAT and Written Test Dates:

• Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 5:00 PM
• Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 5:00 PM
• Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 5:00 PM
• Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 6:00 AM

If you are unable to attend one of the listed test dates, you may be eligible to complete the written test and POPAT at another time, please contact Recruitment and Training Manager, Heather Morrell, at to schedule.

Test Location: Peoria Police Department Public Safety Facility

23100-B North Lake Pleasant Pkwy, Peoria, AZ 85383

There is limited parking. Please park in the lot directly south of the station. If the lot fills to capacity, vehicles may be parked along the front of the Police Department.

Testing Information:

Below is information about the testing process.

• You are required to visit to create a profile and complete the AZPOST Personal History Form. When you RSVP for your test date, please also send your AZPOST ID Number.
• Appropriate attire for the entire testing date is physical fitness attire.

Written Test Standards

• If you wish to purchase a study guide for the test, please visit the link below. The study guide is not required to pass the test and the Department will not reimburse you for the cost of the study guide.
• Minimum passing score of 70%
• Applicants may only test once within this testing period. If they fail the test, they are eligible to re-take during a different testing period.

POPAT - Physical Test

• If an applicant does not pass the POPAT on their first attempt, they will be eligible to retake the test during the scheduled testing dates during this testing period.
• The POPAT consists of the following tests
• 99 Yard Obstacle Course
• Run a 99-yard obstacle course consisting of several sharp turns, a number of curb height obstacles, and a 34-inch high obstacle that must be vaulted
• Body Drag
• Lift and drag 165-pound, lifelike dummy 32 feet
• Chain-link Fence
• Run five yards to a six-foot, chain-link fence, climb over fence, continue running another 25 yards.
• Solid Fence Climb
• Run five yards to a six-foot solid fence, climb over fence, continue running another 25 yards
• 500 Yard Run
• Run 500 yards

Applicants that wish to practice the POPAT test are encouraged to attend the following scheduled POPAT practice dates. Physical Fitness Instructors will be available to help applicants complete the test. No written test will be given on these dates.

• Tuesday, April 2, 2024 - 5:00 to 7:00 PM
• Wednesday, May 1, 2024 - 5:00 to 7:00 PM
• Wednesday, May 22, 2024 - 5:00 to 7:00 PM
• Saturday, June 29, 2024 - 6:00 to 8:00 AM

Oral Boards:

Applicants that pass the POPAT and written tests are eligible to be scheduled for an oral board.

Background Investigations:

Applicants will be scored based on the following criteria. After each testing date, the applicants will be ranked and backgrounds will be processed rank order.

• POPAT Score
• Written Score
• Veteran's Points
• Oral Board Score

Employment Dates:

Tentative Start Date - September 30, 2024

Academy Start Date - October 21, 2024

• At least 21 years old by time of academy graduation
• Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent
• Be able to pass a police background check
• Be able to pass a polygraph test
• Be able to obtain an AZPOST certification
• Possess or able to obtain a valid AZ Driver's License
