Description

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinate, direct, and monitor all plant environmental compliance, programs, issues, and results. Assist plant operations in developing, monitoring, and instituting programs and procedures to ensure environmentally sound and legal operation and maintenance of the facility.
  • Partner with the operations and maintenance teams at the plant to ensure environmental excellence.
  • Conduct facility inspections on a specified basis and conduct all necessary sampling, monitoring and coordination to ensure that site environmental obligations are met.
  • Develop, revise, and conduct employee environmental training annually. Maintain required related records.
  • Review all environmental records for completeness and accuracy and maintain the environmental record-keeping system. Draft, review, and submit all required environmental reports.
  • Collect, review and provide all requested data for annual sustainability reporting.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures necessary to meet requirements of plant environmental policies, and federal, state, county or local environmental regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain the plant operation and maintenance in compliance with all federal, state, county and local operating permits.
  • Monitor and maintain facility environmental compliance with all permits, requirements, and regulations (including RCRA, EPCRA, TSCA, CAA, CWA, DOT, etc.).
  • Functions as a subject matter expert (SME) to plant team members on environmental and regulatory issues and participates in incident investigations and root cause failure analysis.
  • Conduct incident response activities.
  • Lead environmental projects or initiatives at other facilities or company-wide.
  • Provide assistance with environmental compliance and management at other facilities, as assigned.

  • Leadership: Must have strong leadership skills and proven effectiveness in leading a strong safety culture and environmental compliance. Demonstrated ability to act as a support partner to operations and maintenance. Ability to work collaboratively to find solutions to problems.

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Engineering, Science, or a related field from four-year college or university; 5-7+ years related experience in managing environmental compliance at an industrial facility. Experience in union environment preferred.

  • Environmental Experience: Must have minimum 5-7 years of Title V compliance experience in an industrial environment.

  • Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, regulators and the general public.

  • Math and Reasoning Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Attention to detail: Candidate must have strong attention to detail with desire to create excellent work product. To be successful in this role, candidate must also be able to consider the "big picture" and develop strategy and plans for implementation.

  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Knowledge of SharePoint, Maximo or Oracle preferred.

TECHNICAL SKILLS: Demonstrated ability to analyze and evaluate technical data and communicate results in layman's terms; proficiency in technical and creative writing; proficiency in Microsoft Software and extensive internet search capabilities; strong interpersonal skills. Detailed knowledge and understanding of environmental regulations and permits including but not limited to CAA, CWA, RCRA, DOT, EPCRA, and TRI. Ability to interpret and communicate information related to plant permitting requirements.

CERTIFICATIONS:

EPA Opacity Reading certification, DOT Certification, HAZWOPER certification and ISO 14001 a plus.

SALARY RANGE:

Depending upon experience.
