This role oversee the activities of the department to successfully deliver and support solutions that cover companywide functions (External Web, SSO, Service Desk, EAI, CI/CD platform, Compliance etc.) and has the ability to bring both an engineering perspective and an IT perspective to the solutions and services provided by the IT department.

The role requires subject matter expertise, including but not limited to: cloud platforms & related technologies, software development & support platforms including CI/CD. Also responsible for ensuring development and diversification of the skills of the team members to meet future challenges and ensure the continuity of succession plans.

This role also collaborates with IT peers and ensures the Supervisors and Managers in the team work with their peers to devise effective and efficient IT solutions. Additionally, this role communicates with business units like External Communication, Finance and other IT departments.

How you will make an impact:

Leadership

  • Keep the Director, Architecture and Enterprise Applications informed on any issues and provide solutions.
  • Follow and promote the IT Tenets
  • Meet regularly with stakeholders and solicit feedback on the teams' performance.
  • Develop and diversify the skills of the team members to meet future challenges and ensure the continuity of succession plans.
  • Exercise effective cost containment through efficient use of staff and contractors/consultants.
  • Ensure each team member has a balance between production Support and Development.
  • Ensure all applications can be supported by all team members and key technical expertise is not concentrated amongst a small subset of staff.
  • Keep your team's skills are up-to-date to support Digital Transformation and Cloud migrations.
  • Develop and maintain roadmaps for the applications and platforms managed in the department.
  • Keep harmonious professional relations not only between individuals in your team, but also between your team members and other teams.
  • Act in the stead of the Director, Enterprise Applications whenever requested.
  • Ensure you and all members of the department adhere to all applicable IT and corporate policies and procedures and all applicable regulatory standards, including CIP compliance.
  • Cooperate with the internal audit department and provide appropriate audit responses, and follow up on any subsequent action items in a timely manner.
  • Increase end-user satisfaction by monitoring and promoting quality and building relationships with key customers.
  • Manage cost center and budget for the department

Technical activities:

  • Ensure 24x7 On-Call Support coverage for relevant Applications in the department
  • Review functional requirements, designs, test plans, and documentation
  • Support other ISO-NE groups in the analysis of operational results
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) through in-depth knowledge of the applicable theory, algorithms, and solution techniques to ensure the effective and efficient design, development, and implementation of solutions.
  • Incorporate business, engineering and IT perspectives into designs and solutions
  • Assist with efforts to prepare for IT Department audits
  • Maintain standards and procedures for supported applications and systems
  • Monitor performance and accuracy of the Markets applications
  • Perform causal analysis.
  • Prepare cost/benefit analyses associated with proposed changes.

Project and Vendor Management Activities:

  • Oversee the activities of the Enterprise Applications teams to successfully deliver solutions for projects in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the selection of consultants and vendors.
  • Communicate status of project and team's activities.
  • Coordinate with consultants and vendors on project deliverables.
  • Document and report problems with vendor software products.
  • Place software products under configuration management.
  • Review design documents and other project deliverables.

Inter-departmental Coordination Activities:

  • Communicate with Business and IT Customers to gain and sustain understanding of business processes and operational issues related application managed by the department.
  • Collaborate with Operations and other ISO-NE groups to devise effective and efficient IT solutions.
  • Coordinate software migration schedules with IT peers.
  • Collaborate with IT peers on the development of standards and procedures.
  • Cooperate with the internal audit department and provide appropriate audit responses, follow up on any subsequent action items in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to schedule resources and track progress.

What you need to be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent.
  • Seven or more years of people management experience.
  • Ten or more years' experience in development and support of complex IT applications in medium to large businesses using Object oriented technologies/Java and relational databases.
  • Demonstrated competence in a Lead Role for a major cross-functional project.
  • Experience in agile software development and delivery projects with frequent releases
  • Java, Containers, Cloud platforms like AWS, DevOps and CI/CD
  • Experience working with IT operations teams and 24 X 7 applications
  • Experience in managing 3rd party applications
