The Product Compliance Engineer, Material Compliance, is responsible for ensuring compliance of all QSC products to global regulatory requirements related to environmental and material compliance regulations. The incumbent is supporting, organizing, and implementing activities to procure regulatory approvals in said discipline and required to sell products worldwide. For this position it is required to understand the regulations and standards related to REACH, RoHS, Packaging and Packaging Waste, Recyclability, Conflict Minerals and other Material Compliance. The Product Compliance Engineer, Material Compliance, will serve in a consultative capacity on QSC compliance issues on national and international regulatory requirements. The incumbent also validates project scopes in terms of test sample availabilities and is following established test plans in accordance with test standards. This means supporting laboratory equipment set-ups and conducting necessary testing and evaluations. The position requires analytical thinking, interaction with product development teams and (external-) test labs, and efficient multi-tasking.
Base Salary Range 72,000 - 99,000
The above reflects the pay range that QSC reasonably expects to pay for this role. This pay range also depends on various factors such as job duties and requirements, relevant experience and skills and geographic location. - Manage environmental compliance programs and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliant material submissions for QSC products
- Keep abreast of detailed theoretical knowledge in relevant technical areas, stay up to date with current product standards, test procedures, instrumentation, and technology
- Monitor, evaluate and interpret US and Global regulations/standards with the objective of making QSC products compliant for existing and new markets, while managing risk with respect to product requirements
- Maintain rapport with regulatory personnel by arranging continuing contacts and resolving concerns
- Recommend pre-implementation design changes to ensure compliance
- Create and review compliance plans with budgetary and lead time information with the teams
- Implement plans to acquire approvals, oversee and manage material compliance evaluation for new parts and components as well as changes on existing parts and components, including correction of non-compliances
- Maintain an internal library of current US and International regulations for Material Compliance standards and regulations
- Support the maintenance of all certifications over the lifecycle of the product
- Prepare samples, perform or arrange pre-testing per requirements and test procedures to identify trouble areas, potential failure spots, and other areas of concern; Review test plans and specifications prior to testing.
- Rework test samples and set-ups as found necessary during testing activities
- Work with internal sustaining resources to identify second and third sources of critical components to remedy any parts that do not comply with applicable regulatory requirements and documentation updates
Bachelor of Science degree in environmental, Chemical, Environmental Science or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of experience with environmental regulations
- Knowledge of international standards, processes, and procedures required to meet compliance:
- Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS);
- California Prop 65;
- Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH);
- European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulations
- European Waste Framework Directive
- Reusability / Recyclability / Recoverability (RRR);
- Conflict Minerals and
- similar international regulations for QSC's global market access
- Knowledge of proper laboratory techniques and protocols
- Knowledge in International Material Data System (IMDS)
- Review of design schematics and layout and mechanical design for compatibility
- Strong ability in reading and understanding technical data
- Working with Regulatory agencies and Regulatory reviewers/inspectors, are a plus
