Job Description
The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for the leadership, culture, and development of the mechanical engineering team. The Mechanical Engineering Manager will lead a team of mechanical engineers and drafters as they support the engineering needs of the Millwork and Lumber divisions. A successful Mechanical Engineering Manager will develop a culture of Safety, Continuous Improvement, Process Discipline, Empowerment and Accountability, and Customer-Driven Urgency. Planning and overseeing projects to ensure they are functional, completed in a timely fashion, and within budget. Plan and designate project resources, prepare budgets, monitor progress, and keep stakeholders informed throughout the project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead in the hiring, onboarding, training, development, and performance management of a team of mechanical engineers and drafters.
  • Ensures collaboration with the electrical/controls engineering team and the fabrication shop.
  • Oversee projects and the mechanical engineering team as they make critical decisions.
  • Oversee team with focus on project management, design, and negotiation of purchases.
  • Create a strong project management structure.
  • Lead in communication to buyers, design group, project managers, and customers.
  • Identify new projects, evaluate existing equipment versus current and new technology, and continue to innovate seeking the best available technology that meets and exceeds the company’s expectations for capital ROI.
  • Ensure equipment is built safely both meeting and exceeding OSHA regulations.
  • Design, build and install equipment that meets and exceeds functionality as defined in the project and sees projects through to completion.
  • Develop capital expenditure budgets that are reliable and are completed at or below expectation.
  • Focus on accuracy of projects and creating proofs of concept.
  • Analyze and develop new opportunities to automate processes.
  • Create standardization of parts among plants.
  • Attend equipment shows, visit other sister sites, auctions, competitor locations, career fairs, etc.
Qualifications and Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10 years of experience as a Project Manager, Mechanical Engineer, Project Engineer, or Design Engineer including experience leading technical personnel, and designing machines and equipment used within manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated skills in planning, implementing, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally as required by business needs.
  • Proficient computer and networking skills.
  • Commitment to working in a team oriented and continuous improvement environment.
  • Ability to define and analyze problems, evaluating relevant facts and develop effective solutions.
