Job Description
TITLE: Chemistry Laboratory Associate
REPORTS TO: Chemistry Supervisor
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Chemistry Laboratory Associate conducts chemical testing on raw materials, in process materials and finished products.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• In a timely fashion, prepares and standardizes all reagents necessary to perform tests.
• Performs chemical testing by accurately following all SOP’s and laboratory methods.
• Actively participates in Quality Control tests on proficiency samples, IRM’s and any other check samples deemed appropriate by the Chemistry Department Manager.
• Accurately reports results for tests.
• Other duties as required.
POSITION OBJECTIVES
• Maintains all records relevant to the preparation and standardization of all reagents, including accurately labeling substances as appropriate.
• Conducts chemical tests in making qualitative or quantitative analyses of solids, liquids or gaseous materials by meticulously following all SOP’s and laboratory methods.
• Identifies and communicates results that require discussion with Department Manager/Supervisor.
• Assists in maintaining quality system records to comply with all accrediting agencies.
• Maintain recording of temperatures and perform regular maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments by inspecting, calibrating, cleaning, or sterilizing.
• Achieves clear understanding of Statistical Quality Control graphs.
• Demonstrates proficiency in all chemical tests that are assigned to a Laboratory Associate. This includes submitting accurate and timely results based on the analysis.
• Stay up-to-date on new regulations and current events regarding food science.
• Proactively checks and verifies calculations reported by other associates in Chemistry Department.
• Learns new techniques and technologies as appropriate.
• Participates in special projects as assigned by the Department Manager/Supervisor.
• Provides technical support or assistance within the Chemistry Department and works effectively with other departments.
• Maintains, a clean and sterilized laboratory environment.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Good conceptual basis in chemistry with proven ability to perform basic chemistry techniques.
• Critical thinking – using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. • Excellent organizational skills - ability to use your time, energy, resources, etc. in an effective manner.
• Time management – one’s own time and the time of others.
• Training – teaching and guiding others how to complete a process from beginning to end.
• Strong relevant qualitative and quantitative skills.
• Excellent arithmetic skills – using mathematics to solve problems.
