Job Description

ROLE OBJECTIVE:

The operator works under the direction of area management and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the area equipment. (Heat exchangers, absorbers, reactors, pumps). Operator must produce product to specification required for each customer product.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Charges the various raw materials into reactors.

2. Transfers products to appropriate storage vessels.

3. Charges the various raw materials required for each product and operates the area equipment to product and in spec material for each of the products they produce.

4. Properly controls the production by staying within the operating limits of various pieces of equipment.

5. Diagnoses mechanical and process upsets; and adjusts an abnormal situation to a properly controlled operation.

6. Open valves and start pumps.

7. Records operational data in log books and maintains transfer slips for all incoming and outgoing materials.

8. Inputs data to AS 400/Infinium and Microsoft Dynamics AX as needed.

9. Must be able to operate forklift.

10. Trains new operators once they have certified on the process.

11. Keeps the control room and/or office clean and neat.

12. Patrols and inspects work areas or units to detect leaks and equipment malfunctions, monitors operating conditions and shuts equipment down if necessary.

13. Assists in cleaning of any spill during the transfer, manufacture, or related activities.

14. Takes samples and transfers to QC for testing.

15. Troubleshoots equipment and process problems along with monitoring gauges, recording instruments, flowmeters, and other indicators to ensure that specified conditions are maintained and operational systems are working properly.

16. Performs safety inspections in your area that may include eye wash stations, safety showers, hazardous waste satellite areas, ladder storage areas, labeling, and all other safety requirements as deemed necessary by management.

17. Provides information to management and co-workers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.

18. Follows and abides by all emergency procedures.

19. Empties trash dumpsters and performs housekeeping.

20. Properly operates equipment and notifies maintenance of all equipment malfunctions.

21. Other duties as may be assigned by management or leader.

22. All of the above duties are to be performed in the safest most efficient manner possible to achieve the optimum production of a quality product.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must have a high school diploma or Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED).

2. Must be able to work any shift, including weekends, overtime, holidays, with workdays from 8-12 hours.

3. Must be able to pass a 12-minute timed test that measures a candidate's ability to learn a specific job, solve problems, understand instructions and apply knowledge to new situations.

4. Must be able to perform physical activities that require moving your whole body with considerable use of arms and legs, such as reaching, bending, twisting, standing, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials with potential for dust explosion.

5. Must be able to occasionally lift, push, or pull 50 lb and through mechanical means roll or handle 500 lb drums.

6. Must be able to work some heights and climb stairs frequently and climb railcar ladders occasionally.

7. Must be able to wear a full face respirator, supplied air, or an SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus)
