Summary

Qualifications/Responsibilities:
The Head Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children's cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns.

Duties

Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
Gear the program to the needs of individual children, with concern for their interests, challenges, special talents and individual style and pace of learning.
Consider individual children in relationship to their cultural and socioeconomic background.
Treat children with dignity and respect.
Help children become aware of their roles as integral members of a group.
Be responsible for the orderly arrangement, appearance, decor and learning environment of the room.
Assume equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.
Attend all staff meetings.
Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
Participate in recommended training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth.
Maintain accurate records, forms and files.
Plan and implement methods of establishing a positive liaison with the parents and caregivers.
Conduct parent/caregiver conferences on children's adjustment and behavior.
Maintain personal professional development plan (through Aspire) to ensure continuous quality improvement.
Assist in ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the developmental levels of the children.
Ensure a healthy classroom environment - including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.



Requirements

Associate's degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field (no additional experience required).

OR
CDA credential or 9 college credits in Early Childhood, Child Development or related Field, with a plan leading to a CDA credential and Two years experience related to caring for children.

AND
1 year of specific training /or experience in infant or toddler care which may be demonstrated by obtaining an Infant Toddler Child Care credential.

Must clear full background check and pass health screening.
