About the Internship Experience:

As a NYSTEC intern, you will work with internal and external clients under the direction of an assigned mentor. You will learn and grow internal services core competencies, such as knowledge and application, complexity and problem solving, and collaboration and interaction. Through this program, you will gain an understanding of how a security program works operationally within a business.

In your day-to-day role as an intern in the Corporate Information Security department, you will help drive many projects forward, such as policy and procedure development and user access reviews.

  • Learn and use NYSTEC's appropriate tools and processes.
  • Participate in internal and/or client-facing meetings.

About You: Required Qualifications
  • Proficient in the Windows operating environment using Microsoft Office applications, email, and internet programs.
  • Basic knowledge of security best practices across multiple platforms (Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office365, Cisco IOS, etc.).
  • Comfortable working under general supervision, receiving minimal instruction for new assignments, and exercising high initiative and discretion in completing tasks.
  • Ability to problem solve complex assignments requiring research and analysis.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communications, strong interpersonal skills, and can manage and develop key relationships with colleagues and clients through collaborative thinking and a strong customer focus.
  • Must be well organized, able to work well under pressure, and be a good team player.
Preferred Qualification
  • Completed at least two years of an undergraduate program in cybersecurity or a related major.
Education and Experience

This program seeks undergraduate and graduate students with exceptional technical and research skills, combined with strong leadership potential. We look for diverse educational and professional experience.

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited degree program.

The NYSTEC Internship Program for summer 2024 will run from May 13 - August 2. The typical schedule will be during normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. Specific hours can be negotiated based on the intern's availability. Pay rates for interns are as follows:

  • $22 per hour for undergraduate students.
  • $24 per hour for graduate students.
