JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY: Responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Manages the day-to-day operations of host computers and enterprise servers by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair. Maintains records of system downtime and equipment inventory. Configures hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. * Performs troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts as required. * Provides Tier II/other support per requests from various constituencies. Investigates and troubleshoots issues, and participates in problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel and/or organizations. * Establishes, maintains and manages user accounts. Installs, modifies and maintains systems and utility software on servers. Provides server support related to other software and services including email and voice systems and services. * Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical host computer resources. * Performs regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions. Executes/monitors procedures and programs and maintains documentation for backup and restoration of host operating systems and host-based applications. * Coordinates tasks and schedules to maximize benefits and minimize impacts on customer / organization. Develops tools, procedures, and training sessions for operations and IT development staff to assist with work. * Maintains the Knowledge Base as new issues are resolved and workarounds established. * Stays current with technological developments in systems administration technology and makes recommendations on new technology. * Performs special duties and other projects as assigned. * Adheres to all company policies. * Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested. KNOWLEDGE OF: * Server programming languages and operating systems * Current equipment and technologies that are consistent with IT standards for network, voice, workstation and software products and services. * System administration, enterprise backup and recovery procedures, and system performance monitoring tools * IP addressing administration * Voice systems - analog and VoIP * MS Office and Email software and services * Active Directory * Sharepoint * Powershell & Visual Basic scripting SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * Communicate technical/complex information both verbally and in writing. * Prioritize, plan and perform work activities efficiently and consistently. * Excellent communications and interpersonal relationship skills to effectively interact with customers and co-workers. * Establish and maintain cooperation, understanding, trust and credibility. * Perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively. * Good analytical, problem solving and organizational skills. * Detail oriented and ability to work independently. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position generally requires a Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in computer science/engineering; two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Microsoft a plus. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is mostly performed in a 24-hour/365 day office environment sitting at a desk utilizing computer keyboard and telephone. May be required to work extended hours as needed to implement new production application systems and supporting infrastructure and to resolve complications with the same. Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement. PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Work environment includes typical computer related noise levels and paper and equipment generated dust. Exposure to video display terminals occurs on a regular basis. Incumbent is on call to provide support services during off hours. Physical skill is required for keyboarding and use of peripheral equipment. Moderate lifting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The workday usually has a high number of interruptions and priority changes necessitating the need to remain flexible and focused in order to accomplish tasks.
