What Your Job Will Be Like:

Are you passionate about your work and want to use innovative facilities to explore solutions? If so, you could be the highly motivated Electronic Security System (ESS) Radio-frequency (RF) Technologist (Limited Term Employee) we seek to join our Technical Security Systems (TSS) Department! As an ESS RF technologist, you will work closely with the other members of the department by joining a high functioning team within the TSS department. Our team consists of a Field Operations, System Administration and Networking Technicians lead by Physical Security Specialists and Systems Engineers supporting the design, installation, maintenance and operations of the on-site security systems and surveillance hardware.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Troubleshoot circuits used in RF transmission independently and with site engineers.

  • Work with a range of RF communication devices including antennas, power supplies, amplifiers, two-way radios, satellite systems, and network access points.

  • Be responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic security equipment.

  • Complete installation and service of existing equipment.

  • Work both in the field and Security Operations Center (central communications hub of the security systems.).

  • Receive trouble calls, program security system, maintain network connectivity and monitor system status.

The successful candidate will be required to work outdoors.Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$66,900 - $128,900

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • High School diploma plus three (3) or more years' in directly related experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • Experience with RF Communication Devices, Intrusion Detection, and Access Control System platforms.

  • Experience in one or more of the following:

  • Video surveillance systems to include software and hardware.

  • Computer networks and associated computing device installation, service, and troubleshooting.

  • Conducting security system programming.

  • Wiring and configuring low voltage systems.

  • Customer Service Experience.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:

  • Associates degree or higher in electronics, engineering, computer science or information technology fields.

  • Experience and knowledge in basic electronics and low voltage electronic circuits; as well as identifying scope and existing conditions of sites to verify and document electrical, communication and system requirement and/or deficiencies related to the proposed systems.

  • Experience in providing Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support, troubleshooting and diagnostics on Electronic Security and infrastructure systems to field and end user support staff.

  • Maintenance and/or installation experience on federal installations.

  • Knowledge of Cybersecurity or information security policies.

  • Ability to conduct laboratory experiments and acquire performance data.

  • Project management experience as well as time management and prioritizing skills.

  • Ability to work independently on assignments which support organizational and Sandia projects, programs, and business operations.

  • Experience with problem solving, attention to details, and critical thinking with minimal guidance can be demonstrated.

  • Ability to successfully interact with internal and external customers and suppliers at all levels within an organization.

  • Self-motivated and can work in a high-performing team environment with diverse group dynamics.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.

  • Strong organizational and planning skills.

  • Experience or certified in National Electrical Code (NEC).

  • Active DOE L-level security clearance to start; or equivalent such as DOE Q, SCI, or DOD Top Secret.

About Our Team:

The Technical Security Systems (TSS) department at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) provides a secure, robust, and sustainable electronic security system in support of Sandia's critical missions. The department is responsible for sustaining this security system at an acceptable level that meets Department of Energy (DOE) requirements. This is achieved by implementing high level standards and configuration control to the security systems followed by structured, preventive, and corrective maintenance processes. The TSS department interfaces and integrates with other departments within the Safeguards and Security Center which include Physical Security, Personnel Security, and the Protective Force. In addition to supporting the electronic security systems at SNL-NM, TSS provides program and technical support to several remote sites within the US.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Position Information:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
