FLSA: Seasonal, up to 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday May 20th, May 28th - August 9th

Salary/Hourly Rate: $16.00

Position Summary: The Summer Camp Educator is responsible for leading all aspects of a camp classroom during the 2024 Summer Camp season both onsite at Butterfly Pavilion and at our offsite camps in the Denver Metro Area. Leading a camp classroom successfully requires that the Summer Camp Educator, teach curriculum, monitor a room of up to 25 learners in grades K-12 and complete all other responsibilities associated with adhering to the requirements of the facility childcare licensure. Camps offered at Butterfly Pavilion will be for ages 5-9 years old, camps offered by Butterfly Pavilion in the Denver Metro Area will be for ages 10-12 years old.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Lead all functions of daily camp programming including implementation and logistics onsite at Butterfly Pavilion and at our offsite camps in the Denver Metro Area.
  • Teach interactive nature-based summer camps to youth, ages 5 - 12.
  • Work collaboratively with co-counselors in providing and implementing camp curriculum and activities as needed.
  • Use live animals to demonstrate science-based concepts to camp participants.
  • Transport live animals to offsite camps in personal vehicle.
  • Implement all policies & procedures to meet the State license requirements.
  • Effectively manage classroom of 25 children.
  • Attend required branch and facility meetings as needed.
  • Medication Administration for all children that require medication in camp (Training will be provided).
  • Must be able to commute to offsite camps that are not held at Butterfly Pavilion.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Pursuing or holding a degree in education, environmental sciences, or related field
  • Basic knowledge and interest in the environment and wildlife
  • Comfortable interacting with school-aged children and parents
  • Enthusiastic, fun, and patient
  • Previous experience working with groups of school-aged children in a camp, school, or childcare setting

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Current Certification in First Aid & CPR (training may be provided)
  • Subject to background check, CBI/FBI reports, and all Child Care License Requirements
  • Complete Fingerprint Background Check by April 19th, 2024
  • Complete Trails background check by April 19th, 2024
  • At least one year's experience working with individuals of different ages and abilities
  • At least one year's experience leading a group of individuals or children
  • Multilingual candidates preferred

Must be able to work the following dates:

  • Mandatory Butterfly Pavilion Onboarding: May 20th
  • Summer Camp Training: May 28th - May 31st
  • Summer Camp onsite at Butterfly Pavilion : June 3rd - August 9th, Monday through Friday
    • There will be no camp on July 4th or July 5th
  • Summer Camp offsite in the Denver Metro Area: June 10th - August 9th
    • There will be no camp the week of July 4th
  • Mandatory Camp Debrief - after last day of camp: 8/9 *Dinner Provided*
  • Additional meetings may be required

The employee is occasionally required to reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employee should be able to lift, carry any items up to 50 lbs.
