PURPOSE:
The Cook is a role model for young learners emphasizing nutritious meals; has a great attitude toward food, safe and sanitary habits; prepares and serves meals that are attractive, appealing and flavorful, while complying with Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and the Academy requirements; educate staff and families on the nutritional needs of children 0-5 and support age appropriate feeding practices; responsible for meeting accredited nutrition standards and following the Academy policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
MEALS/FOOD
  • Prepares nutritious and appealing meals and snacks that meet the developmental and individual needs/interests of children 0-5.
  • Plans and conducts nutrition activities with children.
  • Maintains food item inventory, and order sufficient items for menus.
  • Proficient with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines.
  • Regularly works with Nutrition Specialist/ Food Service Manager regarding individual nutrition needs and concerns of children.
  • Assist in feeding infants and toddlers in EHS settings.
SANITATION AND SAFETY
  • Follows and adheres to safe food handling and sanitation standards according to program requirements and procedures.
INTERACTION WITH CHILDREN, PARENTS, AND CO-WORKERS
  • Relates in a positive and supportive manner, both verbally and physically, and is sensitive to the needs of children, parents, and co-workers.
  • Uses quick, safe reactions and responses in dealing with children or situations that involve children.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND SAFETY
  • Follows safety regulations, policies, and procedures. Actively contributes toward promoting and sustaining a safe workplace/environment.
Requirements
Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Food Handlers Certification
Experience:
  • Minimum of two years of experience cooking and food preparation for large (50+) groups of people required.
  • Food service, management and buying experience preferred.
  • Experience with Minute Menu software, a plus.
Essential Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs for 25 feet.
  • Ability to frequently push/pull up to 35 lbs for 50 feet.
  • Sufficient mobility, strength and range of motion to perform repetitive standing, walking, balancing, stooping, bending, crouching, reaching, squatting or kneeling, twisting and climbing step stools for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Sufficient stamina to perform job duties at frequency required.
  • Sufficient vision and hearing to perform job duties.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to perform job duties.
