Asphalt Laborer- Screed Checker

Pyramid Paving & Contracting Co. is seeking an experienced Asphalt Laborer to join our team. THIS POSITION WILL START WORK WHEN THE PAVING SEASON BEGINS NEAR THE END OF APRIL. 

This is a full-time position with a seasonal layoff.

Duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

• Position will be primarily as a screed checker on the back of the paver;
• Use a variety of hand tools in compliance with the Company's safety policies and procedures;
• Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor on commercial/road construction projects;
• Perform manual work in preparing surfaces for paving; 
• Assist with traffic control;
• Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers; 
• Ensure company equipment, material, and the work site are maintained, kept clean, and stored in a safe manner. Collect and dispose of scrap, excess materials, and refuse; 
• Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring problems to the attention of the Foreman or HR Manager;
• Complete required paperwork, reporting, and other documentation. 

Individuals who meet the following qualifications for this position will be considered:

• Valid Class A CDL license holder with up-to-date MDOT Medical Certification, required;
• At least 1 year experience working as a screed checker on a paver;
• Member of Laborers' Union Local 1098, preferred;
  
• Current TWIC Certification, preferred;
• Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions;
• Reliable transportation to and from job sites up to 100 miles from the plant; 
• Willingness to work overtime, including early start and late end times and weekends;
• Good hand and foot coordination;
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team; 
• Good troubleshooting and critical thinking skills.
