Director of Learning and Evaluation

As a Director of Evaluation and Learning for Kitamba, you play a critical role in building our evaluation practice, applying inclusive community-informed research approaches to help our clients assess and understand the impact of their work in order to improve learning and life outcomes for children in communities nationwide. You will leverage your extensive knowledge of the K-12 space and expertise in equitable evaluation methodologies to drive data-driven decision-making, enhance program effectiveness, and provide actionable and timely findings for our partners in school districts, philanthropic institutions, and other education organizations.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Evaluation Design and Implementation

  • Develop and implement comprehensive, inclusive and adaptive evaluation plans for clients' education programs, initiatives, and projects, clearly outlining evaluation objectives, methodologies, timelines and deliverables
  • Oversee the collection, management, and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data for evaluation and learning projects, ensuring the accuracy and validity of evaluation findings
  • Prepare and present detailed evaluation reports and findings to clients, highlighting equity considerations, and providing actionable and timely recommendations for addressing disparities in outcomes
  • Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to gather input, feedback, and insights to inform the evaluation process and program improvements, ensuring that community member voices are elevated as part of that process.
  • Design and develop evaluation tools, surveys, and instruments that are sensitive to cultural diversity and tailored to specific educational contexts.
  • Implement rigorous quality assurance measures that address equity concerns and maintain the highest standards in evaluation processes and deliverables.

Team and Organizational Leadership

  • Lead and mentor other Kitamba team members, fostering their growth in the realm of equitable evaluation practices and ensuring the successful execution of a diverse portfolio of evaluation projects
  • Mentor, supervise, coach, and provide feedback to develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach.
  • Promote a culture of high performance, accountability, transparency, fairness, and continuous improvement that values learning and equity.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and best practices in education and equity-focused evaluation, incorporating innovative approaches and emerging evidence to enhance evaluation methodologies and services.
  • Self-motivate and demonstrate capacity to prioritize, ensuring time is spent on highest leverage actions

Client Management

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor on evaluation projects
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to expand the organization's evaluation and learning practice by developing new partnerships and responding to RFPs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Education, Evaluation, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in program evaluation, with a proven track record of leading evaluation initiatives in the education sector with a focus on equity.
  • Strong understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods and data analysis techniques from an equity perspective.
  • Proficiency in evaluation software and tools (e.g., SPSS, NVivo, Qualtrics).
  • Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex data and insights in a clear and compelling manner, with an emphasis on equity considerations.
  • Leadership experience, including managing and mentoring a team of evaluation professionals with a commitment to promoting equitable practices.
  • Client-focused mindset with the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships
  • Commitment to ethical and culturally responsive evaluation practices with a focus on equity.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in Education, Evaluation, Social Sciences, or a related field
