Automation Technician
The Automation Technician role at Tyson Foods, Claremont, NC, is an onsite position vital to the efficient operation of our manufacturing processes. This position primarily involves advanced maintenance, automation, and electrical tasks, focusing on electrical, fluid power, mechanical systems, PLCs, and manufacturing processes. As an Automation Technician, you will play a crucial role in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining integrated systems, ensuring smooth operations and high-quality product output.

Responsibilities:
  • General diagnostic and programming of Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC's; Understanding PLC operations.
  • Installation and maintenance of electrical control systems.
  • Identification and resolution of equipment malfunctions, collaborating with manufacturers and field representatives as needed.
  • Collaboration with various departments to identify, define, and solve problems.
  • Safe and timely repairs to plant equipment in areas of electrical and instrument maintenance.
  • Maintenance of proper documentation, including computer printouts and system drawings.
  • Calibration of instrumentation devices using specialized test equipment and software.
  • Timely response to trouble calls and emergencies, both during and outside normal work hours.
  • Repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical automation systems and equipment, drive systems, robotic systems, microprocessor-based (PLC) systems, and electronic control systems and devices.
  • Troubleshooting of hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, pumps, control circuits, digital electronics, electrical, VFD, power supplies, computers, and power distribution.
  • Performing preventive maintenance on various Production and Automated Warehouse systems.
  • Preventive and breakdown maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.

Must Have:
  • Education: Training beyond high school including either an Associate (A.S.) degree in Electronics Technology (or closely related technical field), or a combination of education and experience which may include skilled trades programs or military training.
  • Experience: 4+ years of automation experience and/or industrial maintenance experience.
  • Computer Skills: Standard computer skills; must have strong skills in document organization, the use of technical materials, and research techniques. Must either be proficient or become proficient in SAP Maintenance.
  • Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with all team members.
  • Special Skills: Must possess the ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of management and operations personnel; critical thinking and problem-solving skills; with strong interpersonal skills.

Nice to Have:
  • Certification: Certifications in any technical field or techniques are a plus.
  • The Automation Technician position requires proficiency in multiple skill clusters including electricity and electronics, fluid power, mechanical systems, and manufacturing processes. The role involves high-level machine and systems troubleshooting and repair, assisting engineering and plant staff with the specification, installation, and modification of integrated systems, and providing technical support for all phases of the operation.
