Role Description

Form Energy has an exciting opportunity for a staff electromechanical engineer to join our newly established systems integration team. This team is part of our talented multidisciplinary systems engineering team within the technology group in our Berkeley, CA, location. It is focused on delivering the product enclosure and auxiliary systems design for our energy storage system.

This new position will suit someone with a hands-on mechanical design background, including integrating high voltage electrical systems, interlocks, data acquisition, and packaging with tight tolerances in sizeable unit systems and environmental enclosures, practical 2D drawings and documentation, and 3D CAD modeling.

The engineer should be experienced in designing complex mechanical sub-assemblies, from concept to production, and high-volume manufacturing, including design analysis FMEA and FEA, encompassing thermal, structural, and assembly designs for packaging considerations and designing for DVT and PVT. They should have experience with various manufacturing techniques, including metals and plastics, and be highly collaborative, working with cross-functional teams and external vendors.

What you'll do:

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship within a multidisciplinary engineering team, fostering the growth and problem-solving skills across team members

  • Own the electromechanical design of Form's battery products, including high voltage distribution design, harnessing, safety and interlocks, and data collection

  • Address challenges related to electronics packaging, encompassing tasks such as electrical isolation, sealing, thermal regulation, interconnection & shock, and vibration mitigation

  • Mechanical design analysis including thermal, structural, design for assembly, and design for test

  • Own the design from conception through all its iterations to mass-production

  • Create drawing packages and manufacturing instructions for parts and assemblies

  • Design and develop electromechanical and electrical systems in support of test stand safety, improvements, and simplification

What you'll bring:

  • Degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering or a related field; bachelor's with 7+ years, or master's with 5+ years of relevant industry experience developing medium to high volume products

  • Proven experience with mechanical and electrical design and proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, NX, etc.)

  • Direct experience with prototyping techniques, fabrication, and high-volume manufacturing; experience with tight-tolerance, multi-material component design for harsh environments

  • Leadership, the ability to mentor, and well-developed communication, collaboration, and engagement skills working with a variety of teams and stakeholders

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain design decisions, summarize observations, and absorb information and requirements from other teams

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment
