POSITION SUMMARY

The Mental Health Skill Builder provides goal-directed training and support to enable individuals to achieve and maintain community stability and independence in the most appropriate, least restrictive environment. This is a grant-based position for the STEP VA program, that will end with the end of the grant.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in an applicable human services field.
  • A minimum of one year of documented clinical experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience that qualifies the incumbent as a QMHP-C or QMHP-A.

RELATED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of and adherence to existing professional ethical standards; Knowledge of community mental health and public health in order to provide advocacy and enhance an individual’s treatment and access to community resources; Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with clients; Ability to identify and measure outcomes; Ability to be self-motivated, engaging, resilient, and resourceful; Ability to promote positive, collaborative, and professional working relations among direct reports, co-workers, and representatives in the community; Ability to respond effectively to changes in the work environment in a positive and professional manner; Ability to teach individuals about daily life skills; including money management, hygiene and social skills; Ability to effectively communicate orally, both in person, and by telephone; Ability to effectively communicate in writing and to prepare written documents; Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends, holiday, etc.) as required; Ability to drive and must possess a valid driver’s license. May be called upon to travel to any Horizon worksite; transport clients, provide services to client @other locations. Regular attendance at trainings and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of Horizon sites; Ability to participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training; includes both verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques to be utilized with consumers as needed; Ability to travel to meetings, other campuses, and counseling sites; Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely and appropriate manner; Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment; Knowledge of and adherence to licensure regulations related to services provided; Knowledge of and adherence to agency policies and procedures.
