Our Wine and Beverage Manager is a leader and strategic partner within the Food and Beverage operation. Serves as the Club’s wine professional and educator for members and guests. This is a dynamic and growing role and the successful candidate will function within a team. While this role must stand on its own, we are also accountable to each other in providing a superior experience for our members. This position involves both administrative office work and operational work and demands balanced attention to both.


Interaction:

Frequent interaction with vendors, managers and members.

Requirements:

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for ordering, receiving and ongoing maintenance of inventory of all alcoholic beverages
  • Responsible for monthly inventory counts of liquor, beer and wine and trouble shoots variances
  • Serves on the Wine Committee as the management representative for the Club and guides selections made at the committee level. Is able to suggest and educate on new wines, vintage replacement and a rotating BTG program
  • Represents the Club at Trade events
  • Work with the Wine Committee on coordinating special events
  • Promotes and manages Club's Wine Society group; organizes annual grand tasting
  • Develops attractive and dynamic cocktail and programming for all Club outlets
  • Responsible for liquor, beer and wine storage areas
  • Maintain all storage areas and ensure they are kept clean organized and sanitary
  • Ensures that standard operating procedures for bar service, wine & beverage service and opening and closing duties are consistently followed and regularly enforced
  • Hires, trains, schedules, supervises and evaluates bar personnel
  • Posts and communicates beverage staff updates
  • Purchases supplies and plans proactively for events and seasonal changes in operations
  • Orders beverage product from approved sources
  • Processes invoices for accuracy and payment in a timely manner
  • Supervises all receiving of beverage product and verifies quantity on invoice with quantity delivered
  • Returns unacceptable items for credit or new items
  • Consults with members on wine selections for a la carte dining and private banquet parties
  • Evaluates wine and spirits with beverage distributors, vintners, and sales reps and takes detailed notes on products that are appropriate for the program
  • Maintains all wine lists with updated information and pricing
  • Partners with Chef to find appropriate wine pairings for dinner specials
  • Highly visible in Dining Rooms to recommend beverage pairings and assist with wine service
  • Develops staff wine knowledge with an organized, progressive training program conducted regularly
  • Maintains attractive and accurate (reflective of current wine offerings) wine cabinets in the Cellar and monitors temperature levels
  • Assists with private parties and service in food and beverage outlets as needed
  • Maintains a stocked and orderly wine cellar
  • Able to act as an additional bartender if need arises
  • Updates inventory reconciliation sheet prior to each monthly inventory and continuously adds new items to spreadsheet
  • Responsible for maintaining all beverage items in Jonas to reflect correct price, SKU, BIN #, etc.
  • Responsible for iPad wine list accuracy and keep current
  • Updates wine and beverage segments of the ROCC website as needed
  • Knowledgeable of all Club software systems and effective and proficient in their use.

Special Requirements:

  • Wine certification - WSET 1 & 2 or Level 1 Sommelier required
  • TABC certified
  • Ability to keep information confidential
  • Advanced wine and spirits knowledge
  • Must possess an outgoing personality
  • Must possess honesty and integrity
  • Must be courteous and tactful at all times
  • Must be a team player and must possess great interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage time effectively
  • Ability to effectively communicate in a professional manner to staff and members
  • Ability to appear for work on time
  • Previous experience in purchasing and receiving
  • Excellent supervisory and leadership skills - Servant leader who is genuinely committee to the development of others
  • Professional demeanor
  • The ability to handle multiple functions simultaneously and with a calm disposition

This position requires at least 5 years of prior experience in a similar position.
