POSITION: Custodial Supervisor

REPORTS TO: Environmental Services Manager

LOCATION: ALB

AIRPORT: Albany International Airport

SUMMARY

Assists in managing and coordinating activities in the Custodial arena of the Facilities Maintenance Department. Management is accomplished in cooperation and coordination with all other Airport Departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manages subordinates on a daily basis in the custodial maintenance of airport facilities; prepares staffing schedules, studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements; establishes or adjusts custodial procedures to meet airline operation schedules; maintains time and production records.
  • Assigns tasks and inspects completed work for conformance to standards.
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment. Assists in procuring and receiving cleaning materials by making inquires to vendors and preparing requisitions for Manager’s signature.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual work plan. Suggests changes in working conditions to increase efficiency of work crews; reports on and makes revisions to maintenance routines.
  • Assists in preparing the department’s annual operating budget.
  • Oversees training programs.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems; initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals; ensures worker compliance with company policies and safety rules and regulations.
  • Participates in Total Quality Management programs.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages and transmits instructions, work assignments and other orders to Custodial Workers.
  • Executes management responsibilities in accordance with AvPORTS policy, procedures and applicable law.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training employees, planning, assigning and directing work;
  • appraising performance, recommend reward and discipline;
  • addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.S.) in Business Management or related field or five years experience in the custodial maintenance of large facilities or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Airport facilities experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence and routine reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

MATEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with issues involving several variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid New York State Drivers License as a condition of employment.
