The Teacher participates in the planning and implementation of a safe, nurturing, developmentally appropriate program experience for the children in her/his care, and assessing children’s progress in all areas of development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain constant visual/auditory supervision of children, indoors and out
  • Document and communicate to the Lead Teacher or Assistant Director observed situations and behaviors of concern
  • Conduct on-going observation and assessment of children’s progress, using technology provided Follow health, safety and housekeeping procedures, and maintain an inviting classroom environment Provide child guidance and behavior management according to the center’s policies and procedures
  • Participate in regular curriculum planning, implementation, reflection, and evaluation
  • Participate in preparation of materials, record keeping and other essential tasks
  • Prepare progress reports and meet with parents on a periodic basis
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally to parents, children, and colleagues
  • Assure that the program meets the needs of the individual child, and is responsive to the cultural and socio-economical background of children and families
  • May supervise the classroom in the Lead Teachers absence
  • Follow through with all Agency directives, and assigned tasks and projects in a professional
  • and positive manner, respecting supervision and constructive criticism
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings, which may involve evening hours
  • Meet EEC requirements for professional development hours completed each year, and enter them in the PQ Registry under the appropriate Core Competency
  • Demonstrate willingness to work with colleagues as a team player.
  • Maintain a high standard of ethical conduct and professional responsibility, including confidentiality, to children, families, colleagues, the Agency and the community.
  • Physical, mental and emotional ability to accomplish the job, including evacuating the building, with or without corrective devices and accommodations, including the ability to read and write, to hear the conversational voice, to speak and be understood, and the ability to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds in an emergency
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • EEC Teacher certification, with a combination of education and experience as follows:
  • BA in early childhood, 6 months experience
  • BA in related field, 2 early childhood courses, 1 year experience
  • AA in early childhood, 1 year experience
  • CDA in early childhood, 2 years experience
  • High School diploma, 3 courses in early childhood, 3 years experience
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word
