This position will be at The South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics 

To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation. 

 

1.       Practices with ethical and legal guidelines in accordance with state nurse practice act.

2.      Competent in assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing and evaluating the physiological population-specific health status of the patient per protocol and policy.

3.      Demonstrates current knowledge of pharmacology by proper population-specific administration of medication and observation of patient response.

4.      Uses critical thinking in formulating population-specific nursing diagnosis and implements appropriate treatment for nursing diagnosis.

5.      Completes documentation appropriately and legibly in accordance with policies and procedures.

6.      Completes assessments.

7.      Ability to alter priorities to meet patient and team needs.  Capable of responding to change.

8.      Identifies patient/family education needs and initiates discussion/instructions and/or utilizes appropriate resources.

9.      Acts as a team member.

10.  Delegates appropriately.

11.  Collaborates with physicians, students, family members and staff.

12.  Orients new staff, precepts when requested.  Assists in providing education or training to other staff members when requested.

13.  Completes generic and unit specific competencies and seeks opportunities for continued education learning.

14.  Collaborates with students and other members of the campus community and health care providers in providing care and school health activities.

15.  Consults with other health care providers for clients and care programs as needed.

17.  The school health nurse provides active health promotions, health protection and disease prevention services for individuals or groups.  Uses student education opportunities in the practice setting.

18.  Participates in the evaluation of these activities and uses the evaluation to make individual and program health education changes.

19.  Health promotions, protection, and disease prevention activities are documented.

20.  Other duties as assigned.

 


Qualifications

Qualifications:  Current State license or Compact State License (if lives outside of SC) Education:   Current State License or Compact State License (if lives outside of SC)

                                    BLS – required upon hire and continuously thereafter.

Experience:   Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
