Below is our job description and minimum requirements to apply.

Provides direct and indirect patient care in an emergency care setting.

To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.

·   Effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers, demonstrating customer service excellence through application of positive language principles, appropriate response and use of constructive problem-solving techniques which foster positive outcomes.

·   Interacts professionally with patients/families; treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.

·     Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system.

·    Perform an appropriate assessment on all patients as related to the care requested and provided and reassessments as per policy. This includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric patients and the general patient population.

·     Adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.

·     Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses, and assessment of changes. Documentation meets current standards and policies.

·     Follows the six (6) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.

·     Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.

·     Formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness. Involves patient and family in the formation of the plan of care.

·     Communicates appropriately regarding changes in patient's status, symptomatology, and results of diagnostic studies.

·     Assist physicians with procedures in Emergency Services and other departments, as needed.

·     Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.

·     Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over patient life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patients served.

·    Interpret data regarding the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.

·     Applies principles of sterile techniques and infection control procedures.

·    Perform waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory’s and the patient care unit’s policies and procedures. Interpret the results of waived tests; takes appropriate action on waived test results.

·    Ability to prepare, administer, monitor, and titrate critical drips per the physician’s order. These include but are not limited to sedation, vasopressors, anti-hypertensives within the registered nurse’s scope of practice.

·     Assess and provide care for patients with critical/trauma injury/illness

·     Triage safely, rapidly, and accurately, every patient that enters the emergency care system. Accurately assigns triage categories

·     Knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately

·     Prepares, hangs, monitors, and discontinues IV fluids.

·     Monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results  


Qualifications

Education:

Associate Degree in Nursing, required

Bachelor of Science in Nursing, preferred

Required Licenses:

Must have a current Mississippi Registered Nurse license or a current Compact State Registered Nurse license.

Required Certifications:

·     Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within 90 days of hire or transfer.

·     Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification required within 90 days of hire or transfer.

·     Certification in Non-Violent De-Escalation & Crisis Intervention Training, required within 90 days of hire or transfer.

·     National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification, required within 180 days (six months) of hire or transfer.

·     Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification, required within 90 days of hire or transfer.

·     Trauma Nursing Care Course (TNCC) Certification, required within eighteen (18) months of employment/eligibility to sit for the certification.

·     Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) Certification, preferred.

Required Skills:

·     Early Heart Attack Care (EHAC) training upon hire and once per year, each following year

·     Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) training upon hire and once per year, each following year

·     Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

·     Basic computer skills; become proficient in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems

·     Demonstrates proficient time management skills.

·     Uses critical thinking skills and clinical judgment to work autonomously as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

·   Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security. Additional languages preferred.

·     Able to function independently and exercise judgment in interactions with physicians, interprofessional care team and patients and their families.

·     Able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.
