Position Overview:

Performs an electroencephalograph (EEG) which measures by means of impulse frequencies and differences in electrical potential between various areas of the brain to obtain data for use in diagnosis of brain disorders.

May perform routine and complex procedures to obtain data for use in the diagnosis of clinic disorders of the nervous system in at least one of the following modalities of Neurodiagnostics:
Perform routine and complex procedures to obtain data for use in the diagnosis of clinic disorders of the nervous system in at least one of the following modalities of Neurodiagnostics:

Electroencephalography (EEG), Ambulatory Electroencephalography (AEEG), (AEEG) monitoring, Evoked Potentials (EP), Epilepsy Monitoring and Polysomnography (PSG), nerve conduction velocity studies, impedance phlebogrpahy vascular tests, visual evoked responses, seizure activity, focal epileptiform activity, generalized epileptiform activity, epilepsy and other specialized tests .

Additional Requirements:

EDUCATION
Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.

HS Diploma

Associate's: Associate’s Degree and certification by the American Board of Registered Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists preferred.

Other: Anatomy and Physiology, medical terminology, and computer knowledge helpful


CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE

BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider

EKG-Technician is preferred

EEG is required


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:

Minimum of 1 year experience in Electroencephalography (EEG) and experience in electrocardiography (EKG) preferred.

Experience in an acute hospital care setting preferred.

Experience with high-risk neonates preferred.


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Basic computer skills to include MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to multi-task. Problem solving techniques. Ability to resolve conflict.

A complete understanding of technical principles, policies, and procedures is required in Electroencephalography (EEG) to include routine encephalography, trauma, pediatric, surgical, neonate and portable EEGs.

Understands basic statistical methods.

Follows established department and hospital policies and procedures.

Ability to perform diagnostic examinations with skill, accuracy, compassion, and tact, to maintain records accurately, to follow verbal and written instructions of technical nature, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Operates XLTEK EEG unit

Knowledge for electrode placement of 32 Channel Understanding of recordings to verify the integrity of the system and the appropriate connection of electrode leads to the preamplifier.

Performs the procedure.

Identifies when supplies and medication are used, accounts for the charges.

Written summary of tests may be required.

Capable of effectively utilizing the Hospital Information System and Radiology Information System.

The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff members of the diagnostic imaging department, staff members of other departments, and medical staff.

The ability to deal with patients from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds in an effective and respectful manner.

The ability to perform numerous duties at a given time.

Maintains a positive attitude.

Able to adjust in a positive manner to changes in work schedules and assignments based on the needs of the department.

Demonstrated ability to work independently with a minimal amount of supervision.

Good communication skills (both orally and in writing).

Ability to work independently, as part of a team or committee.

Good organizational skills.

Ability to prioritize and successfully complete their assigned workload in a stressful environment.

Maintains good basic work habits (i.e., arriving to work on time, takes their lunches and breaks according to established procedures).

Completion of other duties or assignments as required.
