Food Service Worker

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and versatile Food Service Worker to join our team in a school setting. Our food service workers are considered a jack of all trades, cross-trained to work in various roles within the department including cashing, food preparation, serving and dishwashing. You'll have the unique opportunity to work with school hours and be home for dinner with your family in the evenings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare, serve meals, and maintain cleanliness following established recipes, portion control guidelines, food safety standards, and sanitation guidelines.

• Operate the cash register and accurately process transactions for food purchases.

• Create a positive customer experience by greeting students, staff, and visitors professionally and answering their queries about menu items, pricing, and payment options.

• Ensure cleanliness and organization of serving areas, dining tables, and other food service areas.

• Assist in receiving, storing, and rotating food supplies as per established procedures and assist with inventory management.

• Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure smooth operations and timely service, adhering to all school district policies and regulations regarding food service operations.

• Contribute to the success of the food service team by preparing selected cold foods and preparing in advance those food items and ingredients necessary for the menu items and/or recipes for the following day.

• Be a front-line representative prepared to answer questions regarding daily menu items & options availability.

• Set up and maintain the food service line from start to finish including plates, utensils, food, beverage, etc.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

• Previous experience in a food service or customer service role is desirable.

• Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.

• Excellent customer service and communication skills.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks effectively.

• Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks.

• Knowledge of foodstuffs and some food production experience necessary.

• Must possess basic math skills, ability to handle money accurately and basic knowledge of cash registers.

Working Conditions:

The Food Service Worker will primarily work in the school cafeteria environment. The position requires the ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings and occasional evenings or weekends for special events. Exposure to hot temperatures, steam, and cleaning chemicals is expected.
