Job Description

Team Leads with Cando are responsible for performing the safe and efficient loading and unloading of product and the flow of frames to proper storage areas of shipping locations. If you enjoy working as part of a team, problem solving, and a company that promotes a strong safety culture, this opportunity is for you! Minimum 1 year of experience needed, willing to train!

Team Leads are responsible for providing daily leadership to the crews on site while demonstrating a strong focus on safety, initiative to hit production targets, and solid organizational skills. Working in a fast-paced customer-oriented environment, the Team Lead will work with the Cando team to ensure the safe and efficient loading and switching of rail cars.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead daily job briefings, ensuring employees understand daily tasks and expectations
  • Lead the loading operations at the racks including the spotting, pre-inspection, loading, securement
  • Monitor safety and ensure proper procedures are being followed
  • Monitor employee adherence to processes and safely drive toward production goals
  • Report to supervisors' production plan deviations and discuss avenues for improvement
  • Confer with supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments
  • Recommend or implement measures to improve production methods or find efficiencies
  • Assess production plans and assign appropriate labor and equipment requirements
  • Maintain operations data, such as time, production and prepare shift reports
  • Coordinate effective movement of railcars
  • Works to identify and improve operational practices, identifying hurdles and targeting inconsistencies in processes
  • Inspect equipment to detect and report defects or malfunctions
  • Visually inspect tops and bottoms of rail cars in order to ensure car is mechanically sound with no defective equipment prior to loading or unloading
  • Physically open railcar manway or hatches and prepare car for loading operations
  • Physically prepare loading equipment, and railcar for loading operations
  • Physically remove, and store loading equipment, and secure railcar for shipping
  • Work outdoors in a team setting at both ground level and elevation on railcar loading racks
  • Interpret specifications, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers
  • Observe work and monitor tank and silo levels, pumps, valves, conveyors, gates and other indicators to ensure that crews conform to production or processing standards

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide and mentor others
  • Organizer with an attention to detail while completing reports
  • Ability to read and write general documentation; communicate effectively with all customers, team members, and levels of management
  • Demonstrate initiative to work with others to foster a respectful workplace; creates a work environment that is open to maintaining positive relationships
  • Basic understanding of computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement in providing information to internal or external customers in a courteous and tactful manner regarding sensitive or confidential issues
  • Knowledge of safety loading practices and switching operations
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver's license, and safety critical medical clearance including clear alcohol and drug screens
  • Ability to work various shifts including days, nights, and weekends

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year leadership experience in an industrial environment
  • Experience mentoring others, leading safety initiatives, and documenting processes
  • Rail car loading and switching experience an asset
